That's the old tourist information place. Here it is from the other side at Christmas.

And in 1962. Note the College Of Building and Printing in the process of being built.

Thanks, I should've known that, but had completely forgotten about it.

That said, the tiered roof and B&W image threw me off, as I thought of it as a plain, single storey block.

Bus aside, some fantastic pictures there.... some worthy of a before and after I reckon.

I like the Hawthorn street flood picture.... the rescue truck is flooded past the cab.... no much of a rescue from that

Is that not where the Holiday Inn Express is now on the Corner of Stockwell St. The bridge may be running into St. Enoch Station

I think you're right - it is Stockwell Street. Strange to see it with the old
rail bridge still there.

Didnt that building survive until the early 80's? Pretty sure I remember it.

I can remember it too. So it must've been there for a good while in the 80's.

I'm sure it was there until at least 1982 ? The building always seemed out of place.

Thats quite a sad picture... the end of an era... again

1978 and B&W?

As for the xmas decorations... I was there the year when they switched on the new lights which are still in use... they boasted how many bulbs were in it.. I laugh and said 'If one blows, do the whole lot go out?'

The tourist information building in George Sq was the TB XRay unit for Glasgow.I don't think the Tourist Information Building survived Kellys Glasgows Miles Better revolution.

My mother was a clippie in the 50s in Birmingham and she met my dad who was a bus driver. True love over the ticket machine.
