Yep it is an eyesore, still I would'nt mind a mooch aboot inside before they do it up into flats no doubt, there might not be much to see, but you never know.

Are they converting it into flats? Or did you mean, they're going to pull
it down first, then buld new flats?

The printing building that was next to it didn't last long - late 80's build IIRC.

Well, it's a listed building, so the metal window frames and the black vitrolite will have to stay (and perhaps the concrete skeleton, if the construction style is rare), whatever happens to the building. I used to work there (twice) and believe me, it's nothing much to write home about inside. The best thing about it is the view of the Ramshorn.

Thanks for the pic, Foss. The building is a copy of the Daily Express building in Fleet Street, London. No idea what that ended up as, now that all the papers (with the odd exception of the Sunday Pest) have moved out of the street of shame ...

The building does not seem to have any redeaming architectural features and even the facade does not seem worthy of being retained. However, it is a piece of Glasgow's archicture from the past. Often when a building is listed or not , the facade should be rescued and retained much like the Odeon on Renfield St.

It is one of the few examples of commercial Art Deco in Glasgow, admittedly not one of the finest! It does have great impact on the streetscape tho, and what would you prefer... a shiny new block of samey-samey, "Gap-like" modular crappiness?

Id take my chances on a refit thanx very much ::):

PS... I noticed the adjoining stucture that housed the presses has already been demolished

The site is known as 'Albion St' to those working at the Herald and ET.

I've been inside once - it was fairly bland.

The H and ET now work at a swoopy new building at the top of Renfield St.

Chris...

It was originally the offices of The Express when the Express had a Scottish edition. The Herald/ ET moved there from Mitchell Lane.

Incidentally, the pub beside it was the Express Bar, when the building changed owners they covered up the "E" and the "X" and it became the Press Bar. Rebranding the easy way!

Small points ...

The Daily Express still has a Scottish edition, and the Express Bar (always's known as Tom's) changed its name when the Scottish Daily News guys were in the building, quite a while before the Herald and Times moved in.

Sorry to be picky.

Ah, forgot about the Scottish Daily News

I know the Express still has a Scottish Edition, but it was a much bigger affair back in ye olden days with a good many journos and print workers employed there, as opposed to the current operation which is AFAIK much smaller. To be fair, newspaper production across the board these days requires much fewer staff.

I'm going to sound thick here, and probably risk getting told to Google it, but where was this building and when was it demolished?

Albion Street, being coverted into flats.
