back to the bricks
not much happening on top. A mixture of old and new that would indicate
a repair job of some sort.I recon it's all under the soil
I think It might be a water store of some sort given it's local to the big hoose.
If you are in the area take a look up the hill behind the flag pole and see the rocks that form the camp(Camphill) Look over towards Cathcart
Linn Park.Thats were Mary watched her army being defeated from

I really need to get in my arse in gear and figure this one out! Iv a new theory that it could
be a brick kiln used during the construction of the neighbouring Springhill Gardens tenements
... nothing concrete tho ::):

Took a wee walk there today with the dog. I was sitting down having a fag (as you do)
and realised this looked a wee bit like an OS pillar
Image
Obviously it's not as it's at the foot of Camphill, and I was told it used to be a sundial.
It over looks what used to be a walled garden and is now The scottish Poetry Rose Garden.
The beds form the shape of a thistle (couldnt find an aerial shot) and layout
harks back to Celtic an Monastic (not Masonic... dont get too excited folx!) forms, centering
round a boulder on which is inscribed Macdiarmid's 'The Little White Rose'.
Image
Where the paths cross is marked with a stone disc commemorating poets from the three strands of Scottish verse;
Gaelic, Scots and English.

Great photos Mizz Bint
Although the stone circle at the top of camp hill is known as the Roman camp,I have read that they were left by road builders around c!900
kind of spoils the impression
Have to admit it was a great drinking den in it's day!

Hey.... I aint no lady!!
Cheers tho :D

I've read (can't think where) that Victorian excavations have destroyed what was there as they simply dug it up, went "ooooohh... I think thats Roman" and chucked it down the hill 8O
(obviously thats the short version of the story)

I wonder if this isnt a lime kiln as per

www.caerclud.vscotland.org.uk wrote:half a dozen of us, including a couple of brave first-timers, went to Linn Park to help with the work on the Millennium Project there. Recently, 300 year old limestone kilns had been found

Queens Park - Hidden Bridge

Postby OLDFART » Mon Oct 08, 2007 1:22 pm

took walk thru Queens Park on Sunday and eventually got round to photographing little hidden bridge its a to left as you go in from Pollokshaws Road at toilets. There looks to be an original path and with amount of rubble and stones about also a building of some description. I've looked a load of old photos but still haven't seen any evidence of old path or building anybody came across any in thier travels??

davey

sorry forgot

Do you have a photo? I can kind of remember something like that in the summer when I was walking the dog.

Here's a map of Queens Park from 1910, which has the foot bridge marked on it. I don't know what the buildings are tho

If you have a close look around that area, you'll find lots of old worn paths
with sandstone edgings. I know cos I used to cut the grass around there a
few years back.
We're in the stickiest situation since Sticky the Stick Insect got stuck on a sticky bun.

Ahh the memories!

I used to deviate from family walks just to walk over that small bridge as a child.

Thanks for that.
