I'm not so sure on that - My uncle has been a regular at the Hayburn for the best part of 50 years man & boy, it may have been a nickname for a couple of staff but Deoch an Dorus comes from the Gaelic language, still spoken by many in Partick.

He was told i roughly translates to One for the Road, although I'm sure any native gaelic speakers on the forum will give a fuller bodied translation

Re the Hills Hotel. Attended an STV TV show live from the "Golden Garter" in this place. I recall
"Christian" was the "top act". A bizarre experience as two guys with dogs were patrolling the car park outside
due to a number of cars getting radios stolen etc.

a wee doch and doris is a scottish song sung by sir harry lauder and means in gaelic a farewell drink before you leave someones house

Than you for using the gaelic sentence structure and the Doch and Doris now is open.

I found out only recently that there was one on George Street called the "Marland Bar" - standing on the site of the Graham Hills Building of Strathclyde University (which of course was originally called "Marland House" when it was an office block for the GPO) - so the building was originally in fact named after a pub that stood on the site!!

Dram Magazine has a bit about the new changes. When the shutters are up you can see the bar is still there although the centre bit seems to be gone.

The other interesting change happening nearby is the "Millhouse" ( ex Byre , ex-other things ) on twitter this morning;
"
TheBlackIsleBoy Chris
Bruadar (formerly Millhouse) in Glasgow reopens Dec 19th.... The beer list is awesome, includes Black Isle, Tempest and Lovibonds on keg!"

Right next to the Three Judges which doesnt make much sense.

seems the millhouse was`a bit of a millstone then.two previous owners who have been in the pub game for years got rid so i think the three judges will always be the winner on that patch.
