Nice one Cazzie I can almost taste the cider and blackcurrant as I write, the 'Doune' was a bit of a Rock venue if I remember,I'm sure Simple Minds played there on a Sunday? The centre court was sooo cool
It was every 16 year old boys dream to get served in there :D

Centre Court featured a green carpet and Bar staff in tennis gear. You did not miss much. They did discover an atrium previously covered up but not one of the better pubs in the town.

Johnny and the Self Abusers did their first and last gig at the Doune but I'm not sure if Simple Minds played there. They did play what is now McPhabbs in Sauchiehall street and I think they played The Marrs Bar off St. Enoch's.

Played in the Doune once. Down stairs in the basement in the middle section. It was a bit rough remember waiting to get paid by the owner and a fight started in the bar up stairs. Had to haggle with the owner, who I think was Greek, to get paid.

A friend of mine was a bouncer on the door at the Dial Inn. He has a few old tapes of some Glasgow band including the Dolphin. I don't think Dangleberries was one of their songs. It was a big guy who sang with a band but most of the time he was so drunk he fell about the place but always had a couple of girls hanging around waiting for the gig to finish.

Does anyone remember the City Lounge. I only went in there once to see if we could get a gig. My wife told me that it was the pub where mainly people from the Priesthill area drank.

One of the best bands that played in the Burns Howff were Anaconda. If I remember correctly one of the guys came from the Shawlands area.

Did anyone ever go into the Pot Black pub in the Anderston complex? Always wondered what that pub was like.

Yep, it later become the Village and then I think the Urban Grill.

The Doune Castle was a favourite haunt for bikers in the late 70's it closed down and was refurbished and became the poser palace that the Village was when it first opened, even down to the wee kiddie on street at the back of the place.
Where the music stinks, and they water the drinks, ...at the nudie bar

Shit. I didn't see this post.

'The Jag'

:)

Was the 'fifty pitches' not called the fifty stitchies? I used to walk passed there on the way to work all the time.

...off topic here...

Can you remember the old 'nunnery' on berryknowes Rd? It was demolished to make way for the new Lourdes Primary? Beautiful building, nearly wept when they took it away. I walked passed it every day on the way to college watching it being killed by the demo men and machines.

I remember in the 1980's that The Saltire was called
The Postbox. Probably on account of the sorting office
that sat on the site of The Quay.
