NIGHT MOVES!!!

Used to have a beer or 5 in Hurricanes (now Bia) in West Regent St. If a decent band weren't on at Night Moves, it would always be Maestros for a boogie. The Cockburn just off Blythswood Sqare was a wee haunt of ours too...

Real Politique...that was a surprise! Remember seeing them at the Briggs Bar- they were just about to make it huge in America at the time ::):

Didnt know Hurricanes was still a pub.

Does anyome remember the now demolished cBroomielaw disco, that was latterly called the "Cat House". It was around Carrick/York street on the Clydeside, had a mosque-like domed roof, and (i think) was called "Hollywood Boulevard or Hollywood Studios" around 1987-88 ?

I worked the door in Hollywood studios for a spell .. at least I think I did.

It had two dance floors didn't it? The main one upstairs and a much smaller secondary one downstairs?

This memory thing doesn't get any better with age does it?

It had three rooms, the main one on the ground floor on the left as you went in, a larger but scruffier one upstairs and a tiny one downstairs. They used to have the alternative scene in the ground floor and upstairs and a singles night downstairs when the Cathouse first opened.

ultrateque disco in sauchiehall st early eighties?

Postby thinktank24 » Wed Nov 18, 2009 8:26 pm

In the early eighties i was at a televised music show in what i think was the ultrateque disco in Sauchiehall St. I remember a band called blancmange played 'living on the ceiling' but other than that i dont remember.
Can anyone help me fill in the blanks:
What was the show filmed for ? was it The Tube?
Who were the other acts
Was it the ultrateque?
What date was it?

Thanks

It wouldn't have been The Tube because that was filmed in Newcastle (and I was once in the studio audience :D )

Paradise Club was on around that time ('82?) but I don't know if they ever filmed in the Ultrateque. I do remember very well going there on a regular basis, particularly since my then girlfriend worked in the fashion shop directly above it - I think it was called Mark 1 or something similar.

As far as I recall, The Tube never filmed outwith Newcastle.

The above is correct. Tik and Tok were also there.

Yes, drank in the Pot Black around 76-78. Watched a few bands there. There was a band called 'No Entry', played 'upstairs' in the Pot Black but the stupid management in the pub displayed the poster 'No Entry-Here Tonight'. So you can imagine how many folk turned up.
