the building is now dundas business centre 38-40 new city road but the mitchell numbers it no.6 ? wrong on two counts well done those researchers

To be fair, the Dundas Vale Teachers' Centre was numbered 6 on New City Rd when it was built in 1837 and was only renumbered when a vaste swathe of new City Rd was expunged from the landscape in the 1960's.
The building, as mentioned, was opened as the 'Normal School' and was the first building in Britain to be erected for the professional training of teachers, whom before, had been trained by the Church (whatever church they happened to belong to).
Who would have thought it, practically the birthplace of modern education marooned in Cowcadden amidst flyovers and underpasses, deck access blocks and bloody buggery bastart roadside fences that hem you into pavements. Spare a thought next time you see it.

this was done a lot in glasgow "regenerated" areas.my parents neighbour was a pupil at the normal school , anybody know where the abnormal school was?

Don't know if Phoenix Rd was renamed as new, but there was a Phoenix Park Terrace and Phoenix Park itself, which would by sitting underneath the M8 to the east of Garscube Rd these days.

that wierd looking at the block i grew up in(the one on the left of the picture, block 2 dvc) getting bulit, i have a pictur taken from my mums window circa 1973, and block 22(the tower next to the theartre royal is only 2 and a bit floors high, am getting it developed digitally and will post a copy!
