Yup, that's pretty much the spot. I checked it out this morning and realised that it was not where I thought it was originally. The tenements are New City Road.

The date on the photo on the mitchell's site is given as 1971.

I forgot all about New City Road being on the other side of the tenements, of course thats where the Woolies was, St.Georges Cross was a considerable shopping area up until they pulled the district apart to build the 'inner ring road' as it used to be called. The concrete on the tenement is rear extensions at the back of some of the shops Vlad. I'm sure Phoenix Rd was a new name (out of the ashes & that).

They were built in two stages apparently one starting in 1968 with two towers, the next in 1973 with one.

The dates in the photos from the "Virtual Website" cannot be trusted. One of the cars in the previous photo is a Mk2 Cortina which was not introduced until mid 1966 making the earlier date totally wrong

Sorry, they are not Cambridge's they are Austin/Morris 1100/1300's. One of the many cars designed to replace the Minor but ending up being produced parallel to it. The Triumph is a nice early Herald

A mate used to work for Barnardo's who were based in offices in the building in the photo.

Years ago this building used to be referred to as the Normal School which always tickled me pink because it implied by definition that all other schools in Glasgow were abnormal. In fact it was a teacher training college right from the start and it is a very old building dating back to the 1830's. The college was founded by David Stow whose name is of course commemorated in the Stow College nearby. I'm not sure what it is used for now, it functioned as a teachers' centre until quite recently and maybe it still does.

No it is a business centre and has been for some time. There are no Teacher centres which is why there is a media inspired uproar when they book into a hotel for in service training.
