Jedi...Outstanding, Marine!! Beautiful shot of the old wreck, the land on the other side of the river looks so inviting, you just want to swim across.

Clincher, thats a new one on me, can it be seen from anywhere on the front at Helensburgh?

I've been meaning to get to Bowling Basin for ages. Every time I pass it on the train, I say "I must get off here one day and take pictures". It looks like you can get access from the station. Can anyone confirm this? I don't drive, so train is going to be my only means of getting there.

Cheers Jedi. You've made my partner all nostalgic and misty eyed, especially the newsagents where she remembers the newsagent selling old style sweets in jars and never really bothering too much about the measurement .. always to the generous side of measurement though!

Hollow, you could see the shape of the boat from Helensburgh, but in no great detail. I haven't tried looking at it with binoculars etc... you may get a slightly better/closer view of it from Roseneath.

As for Bowling by rail, you could get off the train, cross the bridge and walk back the few hundred yards to where the basin/boats are.

Hahahaha! Was it a stupid question? So, it's really obvious when you're there then? Never been there in my life except passing through by train, and it's not that obvious from there.

I'm sorry you thought i was being sarcastic....you asked for directions, i gave them....of course i wouldn't expect a stranger to know where it is....just so happens that it's not to hard to find once you get off the train.

och, no worries. I was laughing at myself, cos I was expecting there to be a secret to it.
