His book also mentions that here used to be a third (wooden) platform at
Mount Florida which was 450 feet long, from 1937 until the sixties, which was only used for football specials at Hampden.

It was on the Inner Circle line, and was alongside the footpath that takes you down to Battlefield Road. I was quite surprised to find out about this, as I had never seen any mention of a third platform at the station before, however there doesn't seem to be any pictures of this.

very interesting. I live round the corner from moflo station. Always cool to find out new stuff about where you live. :)

ah cool. I might go to that one day. I'm not interested in the football part of it all, per se, but the history part for sure interests me. cheers :)

wasn't sure where else to post this but I thought it might prove useful here.

I was browsing Google Images the other night and came across these interesting maps and plans:

Glasgow & District Railways 1951
Bus Route Densities 1951
Edinburgh-Glasgow Rail Routes
glasgow-greenock-kilmarnock-ayr routes
Caledonian Routes (South to Borders)

Additionally these maps might be of use:

Glasgow City Plan (Year Unknown)
Edinburgh City Plan 1878

Great find! Despite having read a considerable amount of books on the history of Glasgow's railways I had never heard of the "Glasgow North" station project until I read the posts on HG. It now seems to have been a project in which more than a little thought was invested. Pity there was not the cash to follow it up, still might make an interesting model railway scheme fo some club!

Been a while now since the postings in this thread about the old Rutherglen railway stations, but thought some of you might like a look at this pic I recently bought on Ebay. It's dated May 1955, and the train is supposedly Balloch-bound. I reckon the signal box is roughly at the western end of where the island platform currently ends, and that's the chimnies of Dalmarnock Power Station in the background.

Rare pic Gary 8)

The railways around Rutherglen were a lot more complex back in the day.

This pic looks suspiciously like a shunt move on top of the coaches on the platform?

Just been having a nosey with Google Earth, found old
train lines at the back of B&Q Anniesland. Anyone know
anymore?

This map must be from between 1879 and 1901 as Glasgow Central Station is still in its original state with only platforms 1 to 8 and the church marked on Hope St where platform 13 now stands.

Judging by the basic state of Ibrox Park, which is just a pitch with no stands etc marked on the map, that would further narrow the year down to between 1879 and 1887.

That's the Queen Street to Dalmuir (via Singer) line, still very much in use!

Sorry Alycidon, nope this one runs parallel to GWR and
dissapears before you get to Anniesland Cross, rather
strange one. Can't seem to see where it splits of one
of the main lines.

Interesting to note the B&Q and Sainsbury's have their names printed on the roof, being on the flightpath into Glasgow Airport. I wouldn't wonder that with the growing popularity of these combined map/arial view sites that more companies with large warehouses don't start doing this to draw attention to their sites.

Do you mean the B&Q that is still open at Drumchapel or the one that has been closed for years at Anniesland? The Queen St - Singer line goes past the Drumchapel one, can't think what goes past the closed one at Anniesland.

Ah! are there two B&Q's in Anniesland. I located the one on Great Western Retail Park, which has the line behind it, where is the other??
