Polls are handy.......so far HG polls reveal that adult (over 18)Birthday parties are out, there is more opinion about the young than old and people favour themselves to be younger than they really are. As for getting Clydebuilt ships back on the Clyde............no chance, it'll never catch on.

Personally, I would want to see it back on the Clyde.........but not all the time, mibbe it could spend part of the year in Glasgow or come back for a trial period (free of course), just to see what the score is.

I would love to see a ship like the Brittania/Qe2 etc back on the Clyde would be great! I fear that the city "faithers" wouldn't be quite so keen unless they could somehow make a skin. Witness their attempts to have the Carrick demolished in the past...i don't think they care to much for preserving all things Clydeside. They would probably prefer to build hooses on the site of any berth! (Cynical or what) I would love to see her (Carrick) back on the Clyde, then maybe another bigger ship etc. I'm game for that!

In response to Cumbo's earlier post re: The Carrick, i understand that Mike Edwards (English Businessman who's cash has kept her where she is & good to date) is still the favourite to take ownership of the Carrick where he intends to have her completely restored and berthed at Sunderland.

I shall keep my ear to the ground......

Maybe escortregen has post about this but I havent read all the posts. I am sure this would be a major coup and I am surprised that Scottish Enterprise haven't organised something for this. With the Harbour project and the rest of the regeneration down there, it would the icing on the cake and put Glasgow as a historic city of making ships back on the map.

It is great to see that there is quite a popular and growing consensus on here in favour of bringing the QE2 home to the Clyde as some form of commercial venture, quite literally anchored at the heart of the Clyde's regeneration, and that we are all pretty much agreed that it will bring significant economic, cultural, and social benefits to wherever it eventually ends up. As Closet Classicist says, where should this be taken on to next, would a letters campaign be the most progressive method of kicking off and seeing where that gets us? What local and national newspapers should we be targeting?...Perhaps the Herald should be our first port of call, seeing as this issue is particularly pertinent in light of the ever enlightened Melanie Reid's stolid assertions...

I was at the launch of the QE2,as a mate was an apprentice in the yard at the time...I have slides (35mm) I took of the launch,anyone know of a good (and cheap!) way of getting them digitised?
