I thought I had posted in this thread already but after checking, the only pictures I posted here are now dead links.

So to bring my pics up to date and to replace the pics that have vanished here are my Clyde bridge pics;

Albert Bridge
Purpose of Report:
The purpose of this report is to inform Committee about Albert Bridge and the
current status of the proposed improvement project.

1. Background
Albert Bridge completed in 1871
125 metre total length 3 span wrought and cast iron arch bridge over the River

Category A listed
Concrete deck strengthened in 2000 to prevent closure of the bridge to

engineering collection of bridges over the Clyde
2. Current Project

will use earlier investigation and design work
replace old concrete deck edge with reinforced concrete local to parapets
replace parapets with identical modern ductile equivalents
provides vehicle containment to modern standards
repair and restore cast iron façades
blast and paint entire bridge
restore original gilding and armorial crests
install heritage lighting
install aesthetic lighting
clean and repair masonry
3. Cost
estimated project cost £2.4M
4. Funding
no funding confirmed at present
external funding applications required
GCC contribution required
5. Programme
Not formalised but possible scenario as follows –
Review of project, look at funding options
January 2012 to May 2012 – listed building consent, detailed design, contract preparation
June 2012 – tender issue

Interesting item from R4 Woman's Hour from this morning. It starts off with the Author's take on the Clydeside and progresses from there via the East Coast. Well worth a listen:

"As part of our series on women writers in Scotland, Liz Leonard meets writer Kirstin Innes by the River Clyde in Glasgow to find out how and where she gains her inspiration. "

I know this is a strange question, but are there are a bunch of homeless people living in the actual Glasgow Central Railway Bridge? They keep on dropping stuff on people when they are walking under the bridge on the walkway supposedly. Supposedly some young woman got hit with a full can of lager, however, I didn't witness it. Anybody else witnessed strange goings on?

Always look up when you go under there.

Haven't heard about that bridge being used in such a way, but there was a report a year or two ago in one of the local rags that a chap was sleeping in the City Union Bridge to avoid the unwanted attentions of various blaggards intent on robbing or assaulting him.

Is that the guy you regularly see down there that wears a bin bag as a coat? He doesn't exactly inspire sympathy when you don't give him a fiver "for the train to Glengarnock" and he threatens to spit on you. No mention of that in the report I see.

I fail to see where the poster suggested the behaviour in question as atypical of the homeless in Glasgow or in any form of unfair, sweeping generalisation.

Speaking of Clyde Bridges, anyone know what's happening on the City Union Bridge at the moment? Seems to be some kind of work going on...

According to UG

That bridge (and indeed the city union line) is being electrified as part of the EGIP works. The new 380's which will be based at eastfield will use this to get to the maintenance depots at shields and corkerhill in the same way as the diesels currently do
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

According to George Parsonage's "Glasgow Humane Society" Facebook, the new bridge at Shawfield will be swung into place starting either next week or the week after.
