After months of being surrounded by fencing, the Morrison st bogs have finally gone. The site has been filled in with rubble

Someone once told me that the "underground" style lavies were strategically placed around the city so in event of civil unrest troops could use them to cover main streets with only a few armed men.

Found in a gallery of Dutch pics when the photohost invited me back:

Not linkable, but worth a look for the message on the lid. Verboden has the obvious translation to English.

Back of the Barras, along from Glickmans.

Not if you're in a hurry with the steel plating over the top, also note the shiny, new, if rather tiny, brass padlock and chain on the gate.

Topic's been split folks,
Have a look at this map below. I have located all the toilets that are underground around Glasgow.

There is also an underground toilet just outside the Govan Underground. If anyone else has locations of long lost Toilets located underground add it to the map and name the location.

Fieldon St Location A [Forge steelworks etc]
London Road Location B
Brigdeton Cross Location C
Morrison St Location D
Sauchiehall St Location E
Buccanan St Location F
Wilson St Location G

and at the bottom of jamaica St

Did you know that the first public Urinals were erected on the 4th October 1850 (4 in total) They were built at either end of the Railway bridge that crosses Paisley Road.

The next to be built was at Glasgow Green near to Jail Square and opened on January 10th 1851.

No Shit!

Haud oan!

If these lavvies were built more than 100 years ago do they not automaticaly get listed building status?

Should there not be a building preservation order put on some of these structures at least?

Apparently there was one at / near the Tolbooth.

When traffic congestion was being discussed removal of the Tolbooth rather than the lavys was mooted.

Those lavies might have been useful during the 1919 'uprising' , just chuck a few sandbags around them and they'd have been good cover!

It was wild on George Square on Bloody Friday
