drcrippen and I had a little tour of some hidden sites today. We stumbled across what we believe used to be Crow Road Station (closed 1960; station buildings demolished 1970).

Can anyone confirm this?

Actually Tim, I'm almost 100% sure it is crow road station, as the ticket office stradled the bridge. Just got to find some pics of it which is proving damn difficult.

Tim failed to mention that we actually visited 5 old stations today and several tunnels and bridges and got some great pics. They will follow tomorrow, just to keep you waiting.

You're looking down towards Dumbarton Road. The building with the clock tower is now an horrendous block of modern flats. We walked up the lane to the left (beside the brick wall) today in our quest to find the other portal. The Sainsbury's complex would be on your left about 200m from where the photo is taken.

i think looking at the photo that the person taking the picture was standing on crow road at the junction with thornwood. Stupart's the hairdressers, would be just out of shot i think.

Stuparts seems to have been there for ever. Someone told me it's been there since the late 1940's or early 50's. the style of the interior is classic of the period thats for sure, not many traditional Gents barbers left like these nowadays. ( This could be a thread on it's own :) ?)

Next time I'm in I'll ask the resident crimpers ( Allan & Wullie) if they have any memories of the nearby station. ::):

Bit of a long-shot, but see if they've got any photos of the station, Pgcc!

Cheers,

I was in Stuparts today for a short back and sides and asked the if they had any gen on Crow Road station.

Allan didn't even know that it existed! But Wullie knew of it but it was all before their time.
The original owner Gordon Stupart would be your man though as he had the business from 1958 but he's retired now. They didn't have any pics I'm afraid. They didn't even have something for the weekend. ::):
