EVENT: Dowsing the Molendinar Burn

PostPosted: Tue Feb 24, 2004 11:22 am

WHEN: 10:30AM, Sunday 29th February 2004 (yes, sundays have mornings too!)

WHAT: Starting at Jail Square at the foot of the Saltmarket, site of former public hangings, the plan is to use dowsing (A.K.A divining or water witching) or anything else you can think of, to track the flow of the Molendinar to its source. Its could be a 3 mile walk so no stilletos anyone!! Needless to say this takes us to lunchtime and we should have worked up an appetite, so we can get some lunch and a beer - as tribute to the first beer in Scotland being brewed on the banks of the Molendinar (should an excuse be needed thanks for giving us one Jim).

For more detail read this thread:
http://www.hiddenglasgow.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=166

WHERE: The plan is to meet at 10:30AM in Jail Square (now Jocelyn Square) ...

EQUIPMENT: The choice is yours of course, but you could make a set of dowsing rods from wire or hazel, you could make a pendulum, you could bring a GPS to record the path, you could draw onto a map, or draw your own, bring a camera... or of course just come along for the walk!

There were instructions and links on how to make dowsing rods in the thread linked to above.

i could go on forever it seems...these sites go from the fairly sensible to totally crazy, so you can easily find your own level!

I'll be there. With the maps. And a camera.
Please note that this expedition is safe for people who have a water phobia, since almost the entire three miles of the Molendinar is underground!

Hi Sharon

Strange you should discover the 'orbs' site. I photographed just such a thing a couple of weeks ago! Here was me thinking it was a digital glitch. Thank you Beans!

Would really like to be there, unfortunately travel arrangements are a bit iffy. Looking forward to seeing a write up of the event and photos.

Hope you have a good day out

Great day!

Seen the Molendinar in all its glory, twice. Stumbled around obscure bits of Glasgow. Managed to avoid Blackhill.
OK so the dowsing was'nt exactly successful, but you can't have everything.
Cheers everyone and especially Ronnie for the superb maps and general mega-knowledge.
As the Fossil says, roll on the next Hidden Glasgow ramble.

yep, great day! :D

Quite a hike as it turned out...you go a bit further than the crow does!

One lesson to remember is, if you are ever building a raft do not use applewood... it sinks! and if anyone can explain why, well, it might not seem like strange and mysterious forces were at work.
