I traveled via Argyle Street today, and used those auxiliary staircases.
Quite interesting views, with the unfinished walls, and the stairs extending up high above you.
Wish i'd had my camera :(

I worked in the Arches back in 1990 after the area was renovated and there were certainly stories about the lower levels then. Mostly involving the security system being triggered when there was apparently no one there....

I asked the two controllers that we met at the subway walk if they had, in their 20 years service, ever seen anythink that they could not explain. Both of them said that they had never seen anything untoward. They did say though, that there was reputed to be a "Grey Lady" at Hillhead station.

I've been reading about the tunnels under Glasgow and asked my girlfriend what she had seen under the Argyle Arcade when she worked there, she told me that there is a tunnel running the length of the arcade. Directly underneath, where the glass blocks let light into, is storage space but there was a door in the basement wall leading to the tunnel.

Yes your girlfriend is right. Those little rooms were for storage and workshops for the jewellers upstairs

The street under Central Station?

Postby conor lingus » Wed Nov 05, 2008 11:56 am

A colleague has just told me that there is an old street under Central Station. Are there any photographs of this?
