Take the high-rises near me for example. They've got three blocks to demolish, and it has to be a nibble-down for one reason or another. So they bring in one of those really expensive long-reach things to do the top floors, but instead of nibbling the top off all three, they do one, leave it sitting around idle for (literally) months whilst they use standard equipment to do the lower floors, and then bring it back into action for the start of the next block.
