magsmcguire wrote:Hi All

Just found this great site today. Regarding Schipka Pass, i am researching my family history and apparently my g.grandfather and his children operated a shoe/slipper manufacturing shop from no. 5 Schipka Pass. I would love to know more if anyone has any information. The G.grandfather was born in Ireland in 1842 - name - John Trimble, married Catherine Curzon and had 9 children. Any info would be kindly appreciated, Kind regard Mags (McGuire -nee Mckay, mothers maiden name - Trimble)

I've only just came across this, better late than never :?

First record of the name Trimble appears in 1893:

1893 - 1895
John Trimble, Slipper Manufacturer, 21 Schipka Pass. No home address given
William Trimble, Yarn Merchant & Agent, Box 29, Royal Exchange: house 4 Battlefield Ave, Langside
(brothers?)

1896 - 1897
John Trimble, Slipper Manufacturer, 21 Schipka Pass: house 1 Schipka Pass

1897
William Trimble, Yarn Merchant & Agent, Box 29, Royal Exchange is no longer listed

1898 - 1901
John Trimble, Slipper Manufacturer, 21 Schipka Pass. No home address given

1902
no records of John Trimble trading or living anywhere in Glasgow from this date onwards

I would be very interested to know what happened to all the models in the upstairs of the Krazy House.my husband actually made some of those, the model soldier exhibits in particular.

Its a bit of an unsolved mystery what happened to the models etc. They surely must be in storage somewhere. maybe sitting under an dustsheet waiting to be discovered. There was a Mod on here was looking into it at one point. i remeber seeing some of them on dispaly in a shop next door to the krazy house for a while, but that shop is gone now as well.

Yes I worked with a relative of the owner. He was looking into it but then resigned and moved abroad and we lost touch. I recently heard he was back in the UK so will have another try at getting information.

I handled the advertising for Alec Duman in the 70's - usually he was keener to show me the latest addition to his collection of 'musical mechanical' objects than discuss ads. One week it would be classified lineage, the next a double page spread in the Evening Times featuring drawings of his collection. One notable promotion was when I organised a visit from Santa - dropping him in (with elves) by helicopter to Glasgow Green and then a parade to the store. I remember that Alec wanted an elephant in the parade - I did manage to borrow some animals from Calderpark zoo, but it was too cold for the elephants. He once told me he had a part as an extra in the movie 'Casablanca' - I would not be surprised if that was true.
There's a movie in there - if not a book - about the Dumans!!
