Wasn't there a very small HMV on Argyle Street near Wellington Street? Would have been early-mid 70s.

The Original Virgin Records which was the hippy outpost was in Wellington Street on the other side from where Missing records had their shop.

I think there are a couple of branches of West End Records in Clydebank.

For some reason or other there were a couple of Bicycle and Radio shops that sold records. Certainly one in Govan Road.

The manageress in Bernard Electrical which I think was in Sauchiehall Street had the hippest stock till the original 23rd Precinct was opened by an ex police officer from Garthamlock.

Lost in Music is still going strong at de Courcey's.

Steve Kelly still runs in Search of the Lost Chord although he probably does better sales with the Piercing business. He sells stuff on GEMM.

I keep forgetting the Music Zone is upstairs above Bargain Books in Sauchiehall Street.

There was an Our Price in the Sauchiehall Street Centre.

Where were Criminal Records Notorious Vinyl and Bomba Records?

There’s a good stall in the Barras Moncur Street side which does Vinyl and CD's. I can't remember if it's Revolver or Revolution Records but they've moved to a smaller stall on Kent Street (and probably on line)

Bert's stall above Pearsons moved to the Argyll Street market and then disappeared.

Cuthbertsons was in Cambridge Street and the family also owned the Maryland in Scott Street.

I believe the guy who owns the Record Fayre in Parnie Street collects soul records as there never any in his shop in Parnie Street.

I first encountered Vinyl Freaks at the Barras, and then they had a place in the Church Basement at the top of Gibson Street and ended up on St. George's Road and are probably on line or on http://www.gemm.com/

Woolworths sold a lot of records in Glasgow and I'm sure Tesco has a bigger share of the CD market.

High Street Pops was just up from the College bar and was a source of soul records and possibly a chart returns shop.

Dunno if it has been mentioned, but Sidetraxx - Saltmarket.

Dexter - Bomba was at the Hope st enterance to Central Station, and Notorious was on Union St, near the wee Charles Rennie Mac Hotel, it was turned into Kushi, now I don't know what it has been turnied into.

I was takling to someone recently and they knew the owner of Listen, Renfield Street and Blogs on St Vincent Street.

Am I right in saying they were the first shops to provide plastic dust covers with every LP?

Music Mania: used to be at the bottom of Byres Rd.

Was owned by an American chap with a 'tache. Had a good selection of stuff and would sometimes throw in samplers sent by the record companies if you were buying something similar.

There was a record shop on the site currently occupied by The Haugh I think.

Troo. The only good record shop in Clydebank in my lifetime was Bruces, with its smart red and black bags (which I've still got a couple of in in my mum and dads attic). In an empire of blandness, it was packed with goodies - bands I'd never heard of at the time but got into purely coz I saw thier albums in Bruces racks or heard them on the sound system - Blue Oyster Cult, U2 (remember when they were good?) Hawkwind, The Slits and Vivian Stanshaw etc. I bought my first album by The Doors from that shop - the rock dude behind the counter saying "Great album son!" in a way nobody would anymore in an easy to access anything culture. I also used to put in pre orders for those fabby picture sleeve singles from The Jam.

It was the one and only shop in Clydebank I could spend ages in and find something new, or accidently meet friends from school. It was a real tragedy when it closed down, and on its last day I bought a Tangerine Dream mirror which was part of the shop fitting. Happy memories, and I bet there's not a single place in Clyedbank or within a seven mile radius where you can buy CULTISAURUS ERECTUS on CD, never mind vinyl.

Two guys with moustaches worked there. They always had a wee shelf wi gay porn videos to the right of the counter if i recall correctly.

Here's a few...

"The Other Record Shop", Renfied Street ( 1980s )

"Our Price" in the Sauchiehall Centre ( late 80s,early 90s )

A wee shop at the entrance to the shawlands arcade that sold trad Scottish stuff. I am not sure it had a sign with a name , but used to have signs advertising labels of the genre ( Lismor and Neptune ) spring to mind.

There was a small shop in Ashton Lane in the West End called 'Second Sounds' if i recall, run by the big guy who went on to work in Missing for years. Sold lots of metal records.

"Big T Entertainments" in Pollokshaws Road, Queens Park. Sold a lot of dance vinyl and DJ equipment alongside mainstream music. Just before its demise 'Big T' himself decided to turn the shop-front into a 'South Park' tribuite for no good reason whatsoever.

"Salvation Sounds" used to be on Pollokshaws Road, Shawlands in the 1990s and sold lots of specialist music. Its now moved to the arcade were it sells more mainstream stuff.

Here's an obscure one. 'Cambridge Music' ( i think it was called ) was in the Cambridge Arcade and sold mainly badly duplicated bootleg tapes of live shows with equally bad photocopied covers. The quality of most of them was dire, and i am a bootleg fan!

and my persoonal fave on the subject....

"Music And Light" in Cathcart Road, Crosshill. Used to stock records alongside electrical equipment. Actually its still there, trying to sell 20 year old stock, and a tiny selection of even older records that the couldn't shift in 1973. Its a time warp. I actually bought my first record there in 1982 back when they got weekly stock in.

There used to be a cracking 2nd hand record shop in Ruthven Lane, had loads of metal stuff later became a Tattoo place and more recently a Fitness Studio.
