Argyle Street Station

Postby ping » Tue Feb 03, 2004 6:02 pm

Does anyone know the use of the building that is above Argyle Street station. It is directly across from Marks and Spencer on Argyle Street and tucked in behind New Look. Its a three storey block but there doesnt seem to be any entrances. Just wondering cause its in such an odd building in an odd position.

I think I know the building you mean - I can see the arse end of it
from our office. I'd always assumed that it was part of the Argyle
St Station building complex, which was presumably built around 1979,
but the architecture of the back of the building is different than the part
visible from Argyle St - it's older in style. Also, it has a corner section
at the back, almost as if it was on a street corner. It's possible that
there was a small street or alley there when St Enoch station was still
in situ.

As for it's use, no idea. I'll check later on to see if the lights come on
when it gets dark.

Well, it's 6.50pm, as dark as an African with a good tan, and there's
no lights on. Tomorrow, I'll check around 4.30-5pm to see if there's
any signs of life.

Building above Argyle Street station

I used to work in Marks and Spencer and the canteen used to be on the top floor before they extended up.
Cant ever seeing lights or movement over there at all.
I was told it was just stores for the buildings below.
Suppose you need to get a picture of that side of the street way back. I think the new shops were built in the 80's not sure cant remember what was there before the development. your right is does look odd where it is.
I have noticed that there is a large gate beside Millers artshop/post office round the corner thats open sometimes.(cant remember the name of the street) I think it maybe the fire exits for the £ shop and New Look.
You could be right about the St Enoch station idea though.
some must know someone who works in these shops
I'll take me Dv camera out on Thurs 12 Feb and find out.
Anyone in the area at lunchtime?

cheers

I checked again at around 4.30-5pm last week and there were no lights on
in the upper floors, but there did seem to be lights on in the first floor.
