This 1963 colour photo shows the camouflaged wall.

They done the same to Weirs Pumps in Cathcart which was making heavy artillery guns.

Im trying to locate the south portal of Buchanan Street tunnel. Is it behind the industrial estate on Kyle St/Dobbies Lone? If so, does anyone know if access is unrestricted.

It's down behind the new student flats behind the Caledonian University
at Dobbies Loan. I dont know if it's easily accessible any more. The image
below shows where it used to be.

It's an old Ordnance Survey map I have, which I stole from school. It's
dated 1971 and I've cheated a bit - Buchanan St and St Enoch stations
are actually show as closed (grey boxes) whereas on that image above
I "re-opened" them.

Ok, went up and had a look
It's like a mini (and completely pish) Stonehenge. Stones driven into
the ground. I mentioned before of visiting this area in the late 1980's
and seeing an airshaft structure, and I'm now sure it was here. The paving
stones in the ground mark out where I believe the structure was. My
memory of it is now very hazy but I think it had the traditional tunnel
air shaft protection - a metal mesh preventing stuff (i.e. you) falling down.

I also remember being told a tale at the time I saw the air shaft (true or
not I have no idea) of a boy falling into the tunnel "and they couldn't
find him." At the time I didn't understand how they couldn't find him cos
I believed this air shaft to be that of the Queen St tunnel.

The earth around this area looks like it's been here a long time, but even if
this was landscaped in 1990, that's plenty time for it to have settled. The
ground felt quite firm, although I didn't start jumping up and down or
anything. I'd advise anyone who wants to visit this to go early in the day -
there's plenty signs of ned-activity - empty beer cans & bottles etc.

The area is at the top of the hill, but is on an even higher plateau

Some more stones, plus paving stones in the ground...

The centre stone - the ground around this one is in a slight depression

Looking down the line of the tunnel - the new (blue) flats are at the mouth
of the Buchanan St tunnel (you can just make out the retaining wall)

Ah, interesting! Well I can identify the 'Stonehenge'.... this is a modern-day stone circle constructed by astronomer and SF writer Duncan Lunan in the late '70's I think. The stones are astronomically aligned to major solar events like the summer and winter solstices, and there are two alignments to the star Altair(?) I think... memory a bit hazy on that one.
One of the star alignments is for the rising of the star nowadays, the other to where it would have risen in 2500BC. To confuse future archaeologists, apparently...

Interesting. I thought it was a shrine for gathering Buckfast drinkers. There's
plenty evidence of that around there...

How the area looked after it was cleared in 1969

Hey! you can see the other end.

Prominent view of the brick arch directly above Queen Street high level tunnel presumably to give additional support to the tunnel structure below.
