Hi All,
Spent 50 years living in Glasgow (Knightswood & Duntocher) and the last 3 years in Perth, Australia with my work. Does anyone remember Cameron & Campbell's the VW dealer on Gt Western Rd where B & Q use to be and now LIDL - there was a small newsagent's behind it called Birrell's I believe in the late 60's / early 70's. Down at Anniesland X under the multi storey there was a Record shop called D M Jolly which I remember going into it to get the latest 45's. Any memories or photos of these 2 landmarks would be appreciated. TJ

Hi its not Lidl but Aldi which is always seems busy. They must be taking business from Morrisons. Birrels had a sweetie factory where Kwik Fit/ McDonalds is now. It was a sort of "factory" outlet shop much appreciated by the bus crews from Knightswood. Shop still there but was a house letting business. The Esso garage next McDonalds is shut. Heard suggest a
car wash moving in. Anyone know if anything planned? There are photos of the "Vogue" picture house which occupied the space before Cameron and Campbell. They had a slogan "Its now the Vogue to go to the Vogue". Was it not Focus or something else before B&Q took it over and redeveloped the site? Now Aldi, Marks and Spencer Food Hall and a specialist furniture shop.

I know in about 1980 the B & Q site was a Vantage shop, which was also DIY. Anyone remember the massive black square in one of the back gardens around Friarscourt Avenue which was used, I was always led to believe, as a sight testing for Barr & Stroud? Looked a bit like an oversized basketball net!

Remember the black square well mounted on its steel beams. Used by Barr & Stroud.

I remember the record shop although I never went in it, and can also remember the big target for Barr & Stroud - you could see it for miles.
I can also remember my dad telling me that the road junction at Anniesland, when it was laid out, was reckoned to be the most complex in Europe at the time.
