Hi,

I am just moving into my new flat in what was part of the old Hawkhead/Leverndale asylum buildings and I have been trying to track down pictures and plans of the estate in its full glory.

The only pictures I seem to come across have been taken after the building was set upon by the usual vandals. I remember going to look at the building around the late 1980's and even then it was in a bad way from what I was able to see.

The interesting part is I now have a 1/60th share of the water tower!

Any pictures or plans would be brilliant.

I've got quite a lot of pictures during the re-fit.
Most of the interiors were destroyed by Ned vandal fires. I think Historic Scotland/GDC has a few photos in their archives of this site.

Hey that must be a bit weird, living in the bin! I worked there in 1990 and would love to see the photos too. It would bring back a lot of memories for me

Hi Chris,

Your right its small as with most new developments. From what else I have found out from Miller Homes was that the contractors (Hunter & Clark) had to burn everything that would burn in case of any diseases lurking in the wood work etc, or was someone pulling my leg? who knows.

Thanks for all of the feedback so far. I have also found that the Social Work Museum has quite a lot of information on Glasgow asylums.

Oh, I have suddenly realised that I have a growing unhealthy obsession with asylums!!!!!!!

As far as i'm aware, mental illness isn't contagious.

While mental illness isn't contagious (Except some types of Syphilitic brain disorder) dry rot IS.

I suspect any wood suffering from dry rot damage would have been burned on the spot.

one of the nights i went up doing ma spooky things, they had a big fire burning in the centre, you could feel the heat from the surounding path.
