I have to pass this sign on the way to work every day and it gives me a sad every time.
Sad that the sign has been sawn through now when it could have easily been taken down or covered over again.
When it was uncovered and I saw it said est 1880 above the door it gave me an odd sense of connection or wonderment of the past in a global sense,
1880 was the year someone was setting up this cafe.
1880 was also the year (mostly taken from wikipedia)

As these signs become faded with age it becomes increasingly difficult to read them, so if Shuttle534 is incorrect then I think it's perfectly understandable.
I first checked the last photos I had taken in 2006, then searched to see if the sign had previously been uploaded on this thread, which it has:

Looks like 1896 to me, but I could be wrong.
