And a tram rosette :D

It is indeed the Ben Nevis, btw.
All the world seems in tune on a Spring afternoon, when we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

You can just about see 2 different versions painted over each other.

Possibly the oldest 'Currie' shop in Glasgow?! (:))

I have to pass this sign on the way to work every day and it gives me a sad every time.
Sad that the sign has been sawn through now when it could have easily been taken down or covered over again.
When it was uncovered and I saw it said est 1880 above the door it gave me an odd sense of connection or wonderment of the past in a global sense,
1880 was the year someone was setting up this cafe.
1880 was also the year (mostly taken from wikipedia)
U.S. presidential election, 1880: James Garfield defeats Winfield S. Hancock
Australian bushranger and bank robber Ned Kelly is hanged in Melbourne
Piezoelectricity is discovered by Pierre Curie and Jacques Curie
Manchester City F.C. founded
"Boycotting" of Captain Charles Boycott from which the Verb Boycotting is derived
Elementary Education Act 1880 (The act extended the compulsory age of attendance at school until the age of 10)
The Labour Party did not exist

People like Wild Bill Hickok had died four years earlier and things like Buffalo Bills Wild West Show were to come in the next decade.

I wonder if these topics were being discussed in this cafe at the time? Under the sign someone had hand painted.

Evidence please!

As these signs become faded with age it becomes increasingly difficult to read them, so if Shuttle534 is incorrect then I think it's perfectly understandable.
I first checked the last photos I had taken in 2006, then searched to see if the sign had previously been uploaded on this thread, which it has:
http://www.hiddenglasgow.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=7272&p=99348#p99348

Looks like 1896 to me, but I could be wrong.

That is sad. I was hoping that it would be preserved.

I couldn't give a toss, I loved the post and the sentiment behind it. 8)
