I remember my uncle had this years ago. Wonder if you can still get them.

"In 1981 balloon making/blowing kits containing toxic chemical compounds were made the subject of a permanent ban. Initially, the chemicals polyvinyl acetate, ethyl acetate, acetone and benzene were banned, but this was later expanded to include the “toxic” statement, in order to catch future dangerous compounds.

Balloon blowing kits incorporate a tube or straw, as well as tube of putty like material. The tube or straw is placed into a small amount of the material, and by then blowing down the tube a balloon is formed. Unfortunately, some of the chemicals used in making these kits are highly toxic, and the person using it may inhale dangerous fumes."

Odd, I saw a bubble toothpaste tube type thing for sale at the weekend (aug 25 2008) I thought to myself "hmmm....surprised to see that kind of thing on sale, was sure they'd be illegal by now..." :?

Remember them from when I was a kid. Still haunted by the chemical taste....

Yes, you're right. I'm afraid I count wooden-toy shops in the 'craft-y gift-y ' category. There's still a couple of them around though, one in King Street or thereabouts, the other just off Byres Road.

There is one called Big Top selling similar type stuff on St George's Road.

I was going along Govan Rd a little time back, and they had demolished a building on Elder St., built right where the shipyards are. I could've sworn I caught a glimpse of an old shop front that had been revealed behind it, like they had built this( now demolished) building right in front of it. Haven't been back, but just wondered if anyone noticed this too? I might have imagined it. :?

As the original location of Delizique on Hyndland Street continues its transformation into Cafezique, this was uncovered yesterday:

Red Kola's picture doesn't seem to be available any more?

I was past this site today , and I thought there must already be photos in this thread already , but I took some anyway.

The Quarter Gill at the corner of Dumbarton Road and Hyndland St is apparently no more. Judging by the old frontage underneath, it used to be a hardware shop. Could someone who lives nearby get a picture? I didn't have my camera and it was dark last night when I saw it.

No doubt a result of the metric system.

Anyone around the Finnieston area might wish to have a look at a sign in the row of shops directly across from Anderston Police Office. It appears to say West End somethingorother. I've tried to photograph it but to no avail. IT's as if there's two previous signs been exposed.

Is that the shop that used to have grouse hanging in the window (in season, presumably)?
