Old Maternity Hospitals Glasgow.

Postby Mr Vallance » Fri Jun 22, 2012 3:01 pm

I continue to trace my family tree.

I have a recorded birth of a relative which states he was born in 1894 at ''Glasgow maternity hospital''.

I'm aware that Oakbank opened in 1904, does anyone have any info on where the Maternity Hospital for Glasgow was located during the 1890's ?

Quite possibly.

The family home is given as King Street in Tradeston .

I've read that a few hospitals had a maternity section but was hoping for something more definitive.

In the absence of an 'A' at the start of ''Glasgow maternity hospital'', I suspect that TEM's answer is definitive.
"it's just that, in 1979, people shouldn't be allowed to get away with this sort of thing."

I'd agree with that Rottenrow was 'the' Glasgow Maternity Hospital long before any others came along, including QMH (now closed) the Maternity Unit at SGH, Stobhill Maternity Unit (now closed) and Rutherglen Maternity (now closed). There were in the 50's a number of private maternity facilities including what is now the Orchard Park Hotel in Giffnock.
and I rose up, and knew that I was tired, and continued my journey
