It was common practice to incarcerate anyone who was not conforming to the norm including people who got pregnant out of wedlock and people who had something as mundane as speech difficulties or even downs syndrome we had a culture of hide it and it won't exist. I mean for fucks sake kirklands hospital had a woman who dyed her hair against her parents instructions. Think about that what would be the incarceration rate today. Hair tattoos etc.

I am currently working as the landscape architect for the 'Gartloch Village' redevelopment. As I understand it, the developers initially couldnt afford to do any renovation until the new build starts selling. The new build is basically subsidising the renovation, as theres no profit in the latter, apparently. last week the Production Manager told me he's sold 14 houses; they opened a sales office at the beginning of the month.

Work has started on the building to the west of the main tower building - I dont know the names, to me its just 'Building 1' - the drains etc are going in now. The programme for the remainder of the odl buildings depends entirely on sales...

I have never been into any of the buildings, so it s cool to see the pictures on this site. I have some recent shots of the exteriors if anyones interested.

We would be even more interested in a little access to the Admin building (The front one with the towers).

I'm yer man. I know the loch banks and the layout like the back of me hand. I'll get you to the door as long as you go in ........ without me.

PS -
I have some pix of the interiors - taken by a brave sheila I know. I'll stick them on in a wee while.

Uhmmm.... I've crawled all over every inch of Gartloch. I know where the door is! ::): I have over 1000 photos of the place, inside and out. Maps. Video. Plans.

Problem is - Admin wing is security HQ... And so it's one place we have not been.

So permission / escort would be nice! :P

Good call matey.

I'm not sure about the company, but the security agents we met on site were actually really nice people! They watched over myself and my friend and chased away some neds who were shooting at us with air rifles!!

Not often we get such 5* service !

maybe if someone ask nicely the "official channels" perhaps we could get some special permission, if this is part of, let's say... an international conference and that some international participants would love to see the place and are willing to sign a release form... ???

maybe I am a bit naïve too...

Yep, been there been there and been there!

Oh, the one labeled as 'the chapel' is the boilerhouse / coal wagon station - the bell featured is the hospital fire bell!

Also - if you look at the small hole on the left mortuary window board - you wouldn't think a 23 year old guy could squeeze through there, eh*?

:)

You can check out all my pics of Gartloch by loggin into The System:

There isn't much to see anymore :-(

The window with the hole is the viewing area of the chapel of rest. This has a window which leads through the wall to a small area where the body could be laid out.

Next door to here was a small lab and pathology unit. Downstairs in the basement there was a body escalator, which led outwith the original building a little to the fridges / prep. area (Which is a small externalised part).

No slabs or tools or any such left at all.

And some idiot has placed many paint samples of shades of blue and grey up one wall ?
