Ahh right I thought it was a bit more romantic than that - a retired Danish sea captain who fell in love with a Glasgow girl .......and then opened a pub :)

Quite high prices for them original covers even back then.

The two I remember was one in the 1960's in North Wooodside Rd, near the church where the BB was formed and the other was on Maryhill Rd, just at the top of and almost opposite Kelvinside Ave in the early 1970's.

I was going steady with a girl who lived in the fire station in Kelbourne St and after I'd taken her home I'd walk up to the comic shop, bought some graphic horror comic and walked down Maryhill Rd reading it to where I lived at St Georges X. If I read it very slowly, taking in everything on its pages and walked quickly I could get as far as the Seamore cinema by the time I'd finished it.

Next night I'd do the same, always taking the previous evenings comic in with me to 'trade it in' for a bob off the cost of the next one - did that for almost a year and then I bought a Lambretta scooter, but that's another story.

Neil Craig, the owner of Futureshock, has passed away. According to this rather good blog post, Futureshock was the first proper Sci-Fi/Comic shop in Glasgow.

I used to go to Futureshock a lot when it was on Byres Rd, rummaging through the back issues. And staying off the subject of politics, about which he could get quite heated. :)
