The Kings cafe is/was just along from the Rimini cafe which was on the corner opposite the King's Theatre.

You went downstairs to get in, and it was run by a very nice guy called Peter in the mid-late 70s. Onyb'dy remember it?
Whaddya mean, keep down? Why, they couldn't hit an elephant from this dist-

Yes for University read Kings in all my posts (Except the correction obviously!).

I see it's still there at least on Google Street View.

It is still there. It does a roaring take away trade at lunchtime. You used to get a pizza slice and chips for £2;00 or something.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

That might make sense. Wasn't the petrol station across the road built on the site of a church destroyed by a WWII incendiary bomb?
I hear the people sing.

Looks like this viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2878&start=450 may hold the answer.

"This is St Enoch's Free Church which was on the site now occupied by the BP garage. It was demolished due to wartime bomb damage. The tenement just visable in the left of the picture still exists on Old Dumbarton Road but that doesn't mean that those on the Argyle St side weren't affected by the bombing. It's the only picture I've ever managed to find of the church. Magnificent tower... "
