Orlando Cafe..I think

Postby WeeGee » Tue Oct 12, 2010 1:27 pm

Hi there everyone I am looking for any pics of the orlando cafe (I think that was it's name!) It was on the corner just where Sauchiehall Street and Argyle Street begin across from the Art Galleries....there are flats there now.
I used to go there for ice cream with my Nana and Granda in the late 70's early 80's because they used to play bowls on the municipal greens across from it. I would love to show my Nana a photo of the old cafe!
Any help would be much appreciated!
Ps sorry if there are already pics somewhere that I may have overlooked!
Thanks
:D

I'm pretty sure it was featured (internally, and possibly externally) in the film Comfort and Joy. Having said that, I've not seen the film for years and may be talking mince!

Right. See when they demolished that and built the thing that's there now, there was an article in the Evening Times which quoted the architects at length.

They were talking about the fact that it was rare to find a good example of two major streets converging like that and how proud they were, etc...

But they used a specific word to describe the place where the streets converge, and I can't remember what the word was.

It's hard to believe this is the first mention of the Orlando Cafe in all the years HG has been around.

It's not, although it's the first mention specifically by name.

Not being Harry Potter, please don't force me to try to conjure up the arcane potion of words that will summon up previous references.

... and you're right, but I'm sure that's not the word that was used.
