This place was AMAZING!!

So much to see, so much to photograph!

I would actually quite like to take a second trip. Perhaps at the weekend?

Because most of my photos from last night were fairly , lets say, average. Must try harder.

I wish there were more places like this to find.

Something that did work out ok...a panorama of the slipway.

I'd actually quite like to go back and retake this in a more professional manner, but this isn't bad. It shows the winding house on the right and the slipway in the middle. Always good for context.

What a difference a couple of days make. Didn't waste much time getting started. The tragedy is that the winding engine is getting scrapped. Theres only three like it in the uk one in Isle off Man, Stornaway and here, this being the biggest one. Historic Scotland have been asked to intervene but they couldn't give a fuck so long as that £500 million development gets built

From earlier today.

It’s a shame really. I would really like this sign. Must be the last on the Clyde and donate it to the museum of transport…….anyone got transport big enough?

I would personally like to take this winding engine and ship it down to my folks...they have a big empty wilderness of a garden waiting for a feature. Well...feature this!!

And apprently the maritime museums asnd such like were not interested.

Idiots. This is a thing of rarety and beauty.

::): And what would your parents think of that appearing on thier doorstep... strapped to the back of your car!

Seriously though,, why don't we get a newspaper involved in this? Local interest and all that. We could get them to do a "Can anyone give this a home" thingy, we could even stick it on Ebay? It brings a tear to my eye to think of it sitting in a nackers yard

How about putting the best pictures from this thread on a public page - maybe even on the main HG pages?

News paper interest might not be enough.

I tried that here. I got enough support mind, but they'll drop you if they don't have some 'human angle' or something on the story. I discovered that even one of my locals (Herald) was mainly interested in trash and basically sensationalism, much like the tabloids.

You might think that sounds stoopid but news papers can be real dicks.

It can be good to raise the profile of a campign though, that part worked for me, and I did get an interested party for the building.

I guess you just have to get the right paper.

Here are some of my pictures of the boatyard, taken last Sunday.

The wonderful winding gear that will look great in Sharon's garden ...

a small boat tied up outside the shed ...

Image

the same boat viewed from inside the shed ...

Image

this entrance for genetically modified employees only ...

Image

a moody shot inside the winding shed - just picture these huge gearwheels with roses twined around them, a wee potted nasturtium in a hanging basket (and a wee dog peeing up the side) ...
