Nice wee find there HH ;)

Fantastice read aswell :)

Maybe a wee visit to some of our new Fire Stations could be arranged.

I was speaking recently to Alan Forbes about this topic and he said he would have a look. Hopefully he will be encouraged by what he sees.

Sounds like a good idea Alex, I'd be up for that.

Driving along Great Western Rd this morning I spotted a fire engine parked up at the side of the road.

Nothing unusual there but the station plate on said engine read Drumchapel, but there is no fire station in Drumchapel - the closest being Clydebank and Knightswood.

There's a guy from Drumchapel that drives one of the Fire Limo's. From what I hear he doesn't own the appliance, just drives it. It seems the owner is delighted because the 'enthusiast' takes great care of it; going as far to have it fully equipped. Probably costs him about an extra £100 a week in fuel driving about with the lockers full.

I wondered why there's always a fire engine parked in front of a close in Southdeen Avenue ::):

Found this while looking for something else :D

From The Glasgow Story
St Enoch Fire Station, c1890s.
The area around St Enoch Square had a heavy concentration of offices, whisky warehouses and other commercial premises and was considered at high risk from fires. A small sub-station was established there, with a staff of three or four men who were equipped with a fire cart (which can be seen here) as well as a 50 feet wheeled escape ladder. This small force provided the first response to any fire in the area, but could count on support from larger and better-equipped fire stations nearby.

Was lifting the lino in the East Wing and came across an entire bedroom-floor'sworth of old Daily Records, Motherwell Times's, etc. Found this article relating to the Grafton's fire in Argyle Street, 1949. It gives details of the blaze that unfortunately killed 13 people (12 in the fire and one young girl who jumped to her death), including names, etc. Here's a small image of the front page dated Thursday 5th May 1949.
