I worked with a guy who claimed to be the grandson of the owner and he said that some of the memorabilia is still in the family.

I showed him this thread and he was interested in providing access to some of the items. He never followed through though and has since left the company.

I do still have his contact details and will have a last attempt at getting him interested.

Hi All

Just found this great site today. Regarding Schipka Pass, i am researching my family history and apparently my g.grandfather and his children operated a shoe/slipper manufacturing shop from no. 5 Schipka Pass. I would love to know more if anyone has any information. The G.grandfather was born in Ireland in 1842 - name - John Trimble, married Catherine Curzon and had 9 children. Any info would be kindly appreciated, Kind regard Mags (McGuire -nee Mckay, mothers maiden name - Trimble)

I worked in the Krazy House until it closed, which was part of the City Cash Tailors group, they had stores all along argyle street and one in the Gallowgate next to a bar called the (Saracenhead)? The owner Alex Duman traveled the world buying any musical antiques it was his hobby. Alex and 2 other brothers Lenord and Gerald who worked in the store on the corner of the Saltmarket as far as I know he is still there. It would be interesting to know what happened to all those antiques. What I remember after City Cash Tailor went bankrupt Alex opened a store in Paisley somewhere.

I remember being taken to a shop in the city centre by my parents this would have been in the sixties but this shop sold all kinds of things as they bought me a camera it was just a cheap plastic one that took 120 film and also some books, i think the shop was around glasgow cross somewhere but again like everyone else here its lost in the mists of time could it have been a shop that was just open for the christmas period perhaps? as seem to vaguely remember being taken there when it was dark so it could have been late afternoon possibly?
the shop big man sold clothes for people especially men who needed large clothing as am sure they used to advertise in one of the sunday papers possibly the sunday mail?

I can confirm that there were dancers in cages at the KRAZY HOUSE as I worked there as a 'guest DJ' in the mid 70s - the resident DJ was Tam Gray from Toryglen. We were also in the cages! My claim to fame was a residency at the highly popular Shuffles Disco at the top of Sauchiehall Street and a couple of appearances with Jimmy Savile on TOTP. The dancers I knew were Maggie Phillips from Easterhouse, Anne Hedley from Partick and Liz Raeburn from Glasgow. I still have all their old addresses/phone numbers in my little black book.....:). If anyone can put me in touch with them (or Tam Gray), I would love to hear from them.
Alex Duman was a great character. He took me and my roadies up to his inner sanctum, where he had some amazing antiquities. Among them was supposedly only the second phonograph to come off the production line (at Olivetti I believe.) I remember he explained that it was on a wooden base used for the old typewriters as they had nothing else available! The room also contained loads of other musical devices. There was a juke box containing METAL discs, which played (in the same way as a music box) different tunes when selected. This was over and above all the amazing stuff on display to the public as they shopped. An unforgettable experience. Hopefully, these historic artefacts were not lost but have passed into the safe hands of family, collectors or museums where they will be preserved.
To settle any arguments about the location of the KRAZY HOUSE, I have posted a link to a photo provided in a separate thread 'The Krazy House' (which can also be found in Hidden Glasgow.)

If you compare this on GoogleEarth with the views around Glasgow Cross, you will see that it is indeed a furniture store now called 'The Living Room'
Happy to hear from anyone with any other questions about this location or Shuffles Disco.

Only vaguely remember it being Electric Gardens before Shuffles. I then went full time on the road around Scotland before moving away to Canada and back to England. Think you may be correct about the names following (hadn't heard or seen 'Mayfair' though.)

There may be one there. I think the one being referenced here is at the corner of Gallowgate and Bellgrove (or rather, just along from that junction), near where the car auction place used to be.

Apparently, my great-grandfather was born above the Sarrie Heid (or at least an earlier incarnation of it on that site).

I think it's a fairly popular pub name, however.
