Thanks for pointing us to the interview with Maggie Bell. I saw her a couple of years ago with Chris Farlowe and she's still got it.

The one with Graham Knight of the Marmalade was pretty good. I've still to listen to the one with Nazareth. I saw both bands a few years ago at a Tsumani fund raiser at Oran Mor. Marmalde appeared as a twosome and were pretty good, Seeing Nazareth doing a thirty minute set up close up was brilliant. Dan Mccafferty is a great vocalist.

I saw Maggie Bell at the Apollo (supported by the Pretty Thins probably within a few weeks of seeling Chuck Berry. She was great , as were the PTs but the hall was about a quarter full.

Always a problem trying to sell out the Apollo. The Apollo used to give an award to bands who could sell it out. Once saw Neil Sedaka. I thought I would be smart and got a third front row seat. Could just about see the top of the wee
mans head when he stood up so far back was the piano placed,The Apollo had a very high stage. So front row seats were a "no No". Status Quo were good value. Zal Clermiston in that clowns get up- think he did it deliberatley to goad the Glasgow punters to greater levels of abuse. Great shows though. And again the Apollo was not full that night. Bill Haley played it in a half empty house. Rock around the clock - the amps cut out! Shakin Stevens and the Sunsets were the support.Maggie Bell was good. Scotlands Janice Joplin.

I wonder if Neil Sedaka suffers from Vertigo. Van Morrison does. He came close to the edge of the stage at the start of the concert took one look and and retreated to the drum riser for the rest of the gig. Much to the annoyance of my mate who had queued all night for a front row ticket.

In 1956 two ground breaking singles were in the charts . Elvis's first UK chart hit Heartbreak hotel and Lonnie Donegan's Rock island Line. Both influenced teenagers all in the UK and the US. Grapefruit arrived without The Beatles, aback line and a PA so they mimed and were booed off. These days they could have played a DJ set.



In the days before emails, twitter and texts Club Maryland informed its members of up and coming events by sending them postcards.

They spoke of nothing but the gig for about 4 months....
