... my father got a Mini wedged down the steps of a public toilet. No idea which one, though.

A friend of mine had proposed the transformation of the public toilets just off Glasford Street into a photographic gallery to the council. He was not greeted with much enthusiasm by the City Council though. Every time he tried to view the toilets he was told some story or another.

They couldn't find the keys.
It would be a road traffic hindrance.
Cars would be a risk to health and safety.
There was no plans to do anything until the redevelopment of the merchant city was finished.
You need to talk to x person.

The list goes on. Needles to say he gave up on the idea.

He had the first exhibit all sorted out he knew the last two attendants for the Woman and the Mens toilets. They met on the job and were married and worked there until there retirement. He was going to photograph them and tell their story.

It would have been great. The council has a lack of vision and imagination.

Pity, that would have been a perfect spot to showcase one of Mr Fossils obsessions ;)

The council wont directly admit to owning them these days as they then have to admit responsibility

The lavy @ Govan X.

There is also an underground toilet just outside the Govan Underground. If anyone else has locations of long lost Toilets located underground add it to the map and name the location.

Nord have submited plans to revamp all the redundant Public lavies in Glasgow. :)

For three years NORD have been driving the potential re-use of Glasgow’s Victorian public amenities. There are 33 public amenities within the city that form a network of different spaces and potential uses. NORD propose to return some
to working toilets whist many are to be given new life through such uses as street cafes, kiosks and vodka bar

Did there not used to be underground loos at Finnieston Street (on the 'island' in front of PC World) and at the bottom of Byres Road between Benalder Street and the other street I forget the name of?

What about near the squinty fountain on Sauchiehall Street?

There was a previous thread when 'Dirty Dicks' (no sniggering) wallpaper shop was mentioned (it used to be at the bottom of Byres Road, where the newbuild is now) and I think a photo was posted - the loos ought to show there. I'll try and find it later.
