Hi --

Not sure if anyone has posted any pictures for any of these future quests, but thought I would offer the sole picture of the Kibble Palace that I have. I am afraid by the time I appeared on the Glsagow scene, it was already closed and about to be dismantled. Between that & the Kelvin Gallery, I suppose I picked a bad time to play in the Glasgow rain :P

Hey, nice pic! Theres a wee bit on the Kibble Palace on the Glasgow's Heritage thread, which you've actually just reminded me of! Must update that.

Oh, that was so nice to get to take a peek inside. I am afraid I never even got that pleasure :( Oh well, can only hope the marble ladies are in storage & will comeback home soon. :)

Have you thought of doing a project on tennement close (wally) tiles?
There were many different designs and each design would only appear in a small number of closes, and the ones that remain are in danger of disappearing

Wally Closes

Postby Dexter St. Clair » Fri Sep 16, 2005 12:15 am

I was leafletting in Cathcart last Sunday and noted a significant number of wally closes which were tiled all the way up rather than those in the West end which were tiled to the first landing. I do not think they are in much danger.

There are very few remaining in Partick/Thornwood, the majority were destroyed in the late 70's, early 80's by the housing associations while modernising their housing stock. There are some crackers in Hyndland (Queensborough Gardens in particular)

I still think they are ideal project material as they tend to be hidden behind controlled entry close doors.

Ideas for new Topics / Projects

Postby Socceroo » Sun Oct 09, 2005 10:05 pm

Has anything been done on the old "steamies" - baths and wash houses / council pools in Glasgow past and present?

More likely past than present.
