I used to hang about with Peter Lyons from Kick Reaction. The guy was borderline genius but just shading on the nuttier side of of the coin. Talented man all the same. He used to nag me to manage him once he'd gone solo....was working as a postman last time I saw him. Lives in Hamilton still. Now I think about it I sang backing vocals on one of his songs....long time ago now!

All within the Buckfast Triangle, I suppose, but technically they were from Bellshill.

Technically when they started they were from BEARSDEN 8O , three of the orginal members were from there, only Sean the singer was from Belshill. Jim the guitarist who joined a little later was from that side of the world too. Cant remember Sushil the bass player working at that record shop but after the Soup Dragons he started Future Pilot AKA who have released 3 great lp's. He also became a driving instructor.

Absolutely right - one of those Perfect Pop Moments.

And now not so much Since Yesterday, but Remember It Like It Was Yesterday :D

Yup, a class act. Rose sang with Current 93 (one number, Coal Black Smith) at the Arches Install festival a few years ago.

She has sung with Current 93 a lot of times, also with Coil, Psychic TV, Death in June (who dedicated the song 'to drown a rose' to her) and did an album under the name of Spell with Boyd Rice. I saw her live in Edinburgh a year or two ago, half of the female members of the audience were dressed a-la Strawberry Switchblade. For all their fluffy pop sounds, she certainly went down a darker path with those bands..

Are you sure that Big Country did the Big Day thing??

Les Negress Vert (?) did.

Deacon Blue were actually vairy good.

Hue and Cry definitely did a set - I remember because they dedicated 'Ordinary Angel' to "all of you out there" and I remember being quite patronised and heckling loudly 'who you calling 'ordinary' Pat Kane!'. Don't think he heard me. He still thinks he's better than everybody else!!

We had our car impounded by the police that day, and ended up at some place trying to rake together enough money to get it back. Ah, happy days!

I've not posted on here for a long time and now i'm having a posting frenzy, sorry, and sorry if its already been mentioned elsewhere but does any remember Michael Stipe of REM, Billy Bragg and Natalie Merchant of 10000 Maniacs playing the Big Day? They all played together down at the little bandstand at the Clyde. After we watched them we headed off to Glasgow Green to watch poor Sheena Easton being bottled by music lovers.

Was at that and have (somewhere) a big bunch of pictures of stipe, bragg and Merchant. If I remember right, the Bragg's first number (the Internationale with a socialist all-female choir...) was televised, although I only have the report form my dad who was watching it at home, be being at the show and all that.

One other number from the set ("Hello in there") appeared on a 10,000 maniacs video that was released commercially. I have it on VHS, but dont know if it ever came out on DVD.

Regarding the earlier mention of Chou Pahrot I eventually managed to digitalise their EP. Available for download here
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JRN7Y4M9
Includes artwork with the band sitting in what I think was the low level railway (or an old part of it) which used to be visible in a hole in the ground at the junction of Argyll Street and Oswald Street/Hope street.

I think the railway section may be Botanic Gardens.

That sounds right. Couldnt remember the name.

Here's a wee bit of the magic. From the 10,000 maniacs video time capsule.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DPIpyB_ZtJ0

A younger and harier Jay Kay was at the front with his camera and can probably be seen somewhere in the wide shot at the end (with the future Mrs Jay Kay.) Would love to see the rest of this set if it exists on video anywhere.

Anyone record the Internationale off the telly?

If you search youtube for Alistair Hulett you find a great version of The Internationale.

...and what about the greatest band from Glasgow that wasn't signed up....The Dolphins. Ok..I'm going back a bit...to the '80's ....but they were an amazing live band...who played the Dial Inn, Doune Castle and the legendary Kelvingrove Park gigs... before progressing to the Mayfair (now the Garage). To find out how good they were visit Glasband80 website, or my postings on Youtube... at Thom405L. I know it's nostalgia, but Glasgow was spoiled with really good bands back then...and...not my fave...but H20 made it.....ohh...and just a name drop...went to college with a little guy called Robert Gillespie.....Cheers..hope u enjoy what u find on Glasband and Youtube.....

Are all Dolphin fans called Thomas or is it just the one

Where else on the web can you get information about local Glasgow bands from the 80s? GB80 has interviews with the band members from this period it has Photos, videos, music and line ups from each band....The Glasgow band H2O made it onto "Top of the Pops" in 1983 yet there is nothing on t...
