Balgray Tunnel From Start To Finish Photographs

Postby jonno22 » Thu Jun 11, 2009 10:07 pm

Hi all. Myself and a few friends walked Balgray Tunnel from start to finish last
night. The tunnel served north Kelvinside to Kelvinside station. More information
about the tunnel and the photographs can be seen in the link below. Surprisingly
sleepers and cable support to name but a few things are all still in tact.

Enjoy!!!

Hi all. Cheers for the feedback. Glad you all like the pics;). It was quite spooky down there to be honest with you yes. The three of us turned off our torches a few times to see how dark it was (half way through the tunnel or thereabouts) and it was complete darkness so we turned them back on (instantlly!!!!:P). I was not scared though. No rats or foxes or anything like that while we went down BUT one thing we did see was the remains of a pigeon (feathers and whatnot) lying beside bags of rubbish inside the tunnel more towards the Kelvinside side end to the tunnel. Obviously cats go in there in a regular basis because they love seagull and anything that is in there way :). It was a great walk and recommend it to anyone on here that loves tunnels. I am willing to walk through the tunnel again if any of you are wanting to meet up in a week or two. You can let me know. What we could also do is walk Buchanan St. Tunnel and make a day of it. If you can walk Buchanan Street Tunnel then you can walk them all in my opinion (in terms of being what you would epect to find living inside the tunnel and there is nothing actually in there at all).

Best Regards

Hi Dexter. I knew someone would think it was the floor but the reflections are actually bouncing off the yellow seating hehe. Charing Cross station is a great station for all kinds of photography especially atmosphere

Postby jonno22 » Sat Jul 11, 2009 10:41 pm

Hi all. I attended the D.R.S. Carlisle Kingmoor Depot 11th July 2009 Open Day event. The weather was absolutely fantastic and made the day very enjoyable with plenty of goings on within the Kingmoor Depot facility to keep the camera busy. The link to the 86 photographs to view can be found below:
http://jonathanmcgurk.fotopic.net/c1724498.html - I am in the middle of adding captions at the moment and a full commentary box all of which I am hoping to complete by the end of the weekend.

ABANDONED AND DISUSED RAILWAYS: Clydebank Riverside Station

Postby jonno22 » Sat Jul 25, 2009 8:00 pm

Hi all. Lets Kick off the start of the abandoned and disused railways galleries with this:

ABANDONED AND DISUSED RAILWAYS: Clydebank Riverside Station & Dalmuir Riverside Station & Branch Photographs:
http://jonathanmcgurk.fotopic.net/c1731074.html

The gallery contains 63 photographs all taken on 30th April 2009 and shows the remains of the former Lanarkshire and Dunbartonshire railway line that ran from Dalmuir Riverside to Clydebank Central Junction and onwards to Yoker Ferry. Photographs also include the old station building that was once known as Clydebank Riverside station which is a listed building so therefore not allowed to be touched e.g. demolished. The stations exterior remains fully in tact and the interior has been turned into houses. I will add a full commentary box and captions to the gallery tonight.

What The Gallery Contains:

Hi all. I've uploaded a gallery with my photographs from my two visits to
abandoned and disused Balgray Tunnel and Kelvinside station in Glasgow's West
End. The tunnel and station were part of the 'Beeching Axe'in 1964. Inside
the tunnel wooden sleepers still remain as well as the original ballast. The tunnel
also all in all remains in good tact with very little flooding. Kelvinside station
still has its part of both its platforms still in tact also. More information can be
found inside the commentary box and the image captions which I am in the middle of
typing out at the moment. The gallery contains 19 photographs all in all. Any
memories from back in the day when the station and tunnel was open would be
interesting to hear.

Hi all. I've added a new gallery to my site with photographs taken today from the
former Rothesay Dock Brnach between Yoker and Clydebank. The gallery of which the
photographs are in will expand greatly over the course of the weekend, though
I'll keep you all updated. Photographs can be found in the link below:
