The full slogan: 'Aberdeen City and Shire - A Brighter Outlook'

is too long, visually boring, and doesn't convey anything unique.

And the use of Shire in Scotland shows the team of London consultants didn't bother their backsides to do any research into language usage.

We may have places like Lanarkshire, but I haven't come across anyone up here that refers to 'shires'.

£150,000 obtained by deception IMHO.

Well, having come from these "shires" myself, I'm not sure people in Glasgow refer to them at all! Perhaps as "the countryside"...

That big shed thing in the middle of the photo annoys me. It ruins the whole view from my window :x

I think we just don't use the terminology, maybe because we're so sparse compared to down south, the need doesn't arise.

Closest similarity I encounter regularly is along the lines of 'The county of Lanark'.

Obligatory cinema website plug:

I've just uploaded a big cache of archive photos of Aberdeen's old cinemas to the survivingcinemas.org.uk website; have a look at our Aberdeen page here:

Photos o' Aberdeen

Postby martyangus » Mon Nov 07, 2005 6:52 pm

Fit like folks!

I came across your Board by accident and was impressed by the pics from MUSTARDMAN. I too, have taken literally hundreds of pics around the city of Aberdeen and post them on our local board run by the Press & Journal/Evening Express. You can have a wee look at http://www.nepforums.co.uk/thisisnorths ... s.php?Cat=

It's mainly for the ex-pats,many who left Aberdeen in the 1950's/60's,to let them see the many changes over the years. It's sort of became a late hobby in life to myself! Well, all the best to you all !!

Hi DESTO!

Glad you liked the photos. There isn't really any shipyards left in the city, just the oil rig supply bases, which ferry equipment and supplies out to the Rigs. I only really got the one photo that day,as someone wondered what I was up to(just prior to the G8 summit) and phoned the police!!! Very embarrassing I kin tell ye!!!

See from your earlier posts that you are coming to work in Aberdeen. Is that oil-related?

Hi DESTO!

Is that your Offshore Certificate you're coming up to do.........or have you already obtained that? Both my son-in-laws work on the Rigs and have done for a few years now. Yea,the money is good. They are 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off.

Aye,ah'm sure you'll like Aberdeen...........a nice corner of the world up here. Bloody expensive place to live though!!

Well anyway, all the best in the new job Desto an' guid luck go wi' ye!
