It's the former sea bathing station.

The changing rooms skirt the perimeter, and the main building was the cafe/restaurant, with the tiers of a Spectator's Gallery leading to the bathing area. It dates from the 1920s, but when the the Royal Aquarium opened across the bay in 1938, with heated baths, the Scottish weather meant the open air nature of sea bathing lost its attraction

During World War II, it served the NAAFI.

There's been one or two development ideas in the past, but they never come to anything.

Here you go.

It's the only pic I've come across, though I suspect there would be more in the Bute Museum - I always forget to look or ask though.

Clearly from a postcard, looking at the 'original', it's also clear that a number of the characters visible in the water have been cut out from other pictures and pasted on to the background of the original pic. their scale and perspective just aren't 'right, and they have odd 'edges' and shadows when zoomed into.

Now I'll have to go dig out the graffiti and 'abandoned lavvie' detail from the place (unless you got that too?).

Didn't choose these 2 pics to post, but remembered I already had them on line from around 2001:

And for those like the odd odd building:

The building sits over a sewage plant/outlet, the doors (there's another to the left) used to provide access to Ladies and Gents toilets within, but all traces are long removed from the interior.

Mykitten.................
Apart from the aforementioned bathing station. In the sixties, the area was used as a fairground which was there the whole summer for about ten years as far as I remember.
The bit you took the pics was used for speedboat rides round the bay, and also waterskiing.
That was until the numpty that was in charge of the speedboat decided to fill up with petrol while he still had passengers onboard (father and daughter), and the engine still running.
The whole thing went up with a bang. He got thrown (or jumped) into the water. The two unfortunate passengers, suffered burns from the incident.
I was there at the time. I saw the two getting rushed off to hospital. The fire brigade put out the fire. The boat was a total wreck by that time.
I never did find out how the two passengers fared :(
