Forgive me for pointing out the obvious!! I can see by some earlier posts, it has been pointed out before, however,
I thought this site was called 'HIDDEN GLASGOW', not 'hidden Edinburgh', hidden Scotland or hidden anything-else !
All I ever experienced when socialising in Edinburgh was contempt and hatred towards anyone and all-things Glaswegian !
Wi all their 'weegie' banter and everything being 'pure barry', I'dve got locked up if I stayed there any longer, (and I was just 'passing through') !
I used to deliver through there and all the shopkeepers seemed decent enough. Maybe it is just me that attracts such ingnoramuses to open their gob and spew their verbal diarrhea in my general direction!!!
Hence, my attitude towards the city and its inhabitants is rather clouded.
In fact, I'd avoid going there EVER again !
(Which I have succesfully managed to do ever-since) !!
I think it is in bad taste to have a thread in relation to Edinburgh here on hidden Glagow !
It is only right that it should be DELETED !
That's just MY tuppence though !
If I upset any 'Edinburgers' by voicing my opinion then, tough !
Go n boil yer heids ya east-coast weirdo's !

Stirling and Staglieno aren't in Glasgow either, and from what I hear Berlin's miles away.

Well we're a cultured & well travelled lot here on Hidden Glasgow - hence the reason that this section of the forum is called AROUND THE WORLD we like to share.

Must have been something you said, I haven't experienced that in Edinburgh or anywhere else in Scotland for that matter - banter yes - malicious hatred no. You should really learn the differences between them

Ahh the Rab C Nesbitt image of Glasgow

Have you been playing billiards with your water vapourising unit?

I'm sure the Good People of Edinburgh are pleased at that.

And your wondering why some people from Edinburgh, that you've encountered have that opinion of Glaswegian's?

I wasn't even going to mention that - thought I'd leave it for the HG spelling polis.

Also the inability of some people to use the return key to break up posts into paragraphs gets right on my tits!

Edinburgh lawyers don't mess about when they fall out.

http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/crime-courts/who-hired-hitman-to-kill-legal-chief-1.1135572

A HITMAN is facing a lengthy jail sentence after attempting to murder a senior legal official in a frenzied knife attack.

Police believe Robert Graham was ordered to kill Leslie Cumming, former deputy chief executive of the Law Society of Scotland, by someone who had been “disgruntled” by investigations into allegedly crooked lawyers.

That whole thing sounds like Rebus ought to be investigating.

Some more Edinburgh glamour, on the ever-dependably scummy Cowgate:

Over on Calton Road, being where Renton ran at the start of Trainspotting:

Up Fleshmarket Close, cos I couldn't resist it:

More tourist tat, but the light was nice - Heriot's from Victoria Terrace:

And in the same place, Scotland's professed love affair with 'Continental-style pavement cafe' culture goes from strength to strength:

Here's a thing I stumbled upon; if the people behind the construction of the National Monument on Calton Hill hadn't run out of money, it would have ended up something like this:
Image

...being a rather more complete Parthenon reconstruction, in Nashville, Tennessee. Image nicked from Wikipedia >here<.

It's concrete rather than Craiglieth sandstone, hence a damn sight easier (and cheaper) to put up, but they finished it. I prefer the Scottish one as it is, I have to say.

Oh and here's a pretty definitive history of the thing, along with a lot of context: >clicky<

I like how 'fac simile' is two words.

A few from the wee trip out to Edinburgh I forsook the HG night out for! (Mostly cos I was half-jaked before I got on the train West!)

Looking over the city from South Bridge

I can see the shows!!!

This one was something of an experiment. Don't know that it worked to be honest!

How very apt.

Edinburgh street tops list of most expensive addresses

Dick Place in the Grange area of Edinburgh is Scotland's most expensive residential street, according to data released by Bank of Scotland.

The average price of a property was estimated at just over £1.5m.
