Ardrossan - Derelict Properties

Postby My Kitten » Mon Jul 24, 2006 8:38 am

Owners of derelict properties in an Ayrshire town could be issued with compulsory purchase orders.

A regeneration company is teaming up with North Ayrshire Council to crack down on people in the Ardrossan area who allow properties to rot.

They accused owners and developers of crucifying efforts of local people to improve the town, which was last year shortlisted for a "carbuncle" award.

It is hoped this will be the first step in the transformation of the town.

The Irvine Bay Regeneration Company is behind the move.

Last year Ardrossan was one of six Scottish towns shortlisted for design magazine Prospect's carbuncle award.

I've only ever been to Ardrossan once but it struck me as one of the most depressing places i'd ever been to - it was a Saturday when i was there yet the place was eerily dead and most of the shops/businesses seemed to have closed down long ago

I was born and grew up in Ardrossan. My council house bedroom looked out onto the Firth of Clyde and that magical isle of Arran.

it was a great place to grow up back then. Our front room was always let for the fair fortnight to Govan folks and they had me back living at their Harmony Row tenement after the fair - It was an eye opener for a 14 year old back then in 1956.

Last time I was in Ardrossan it was FULL of Rangers fans.

Let's get it right folks, Adrussin.

Seriously though, it's a shame that it's became such a dump. Although, that NAC actually feel the need to get up off there arses for once shows how bad it has got. It's an interesting shift. Although nowhere does it say these derelict properties or historic buildings will be restored.

I'd like to see it sorted out (I suggest they start with some excellent pubs, everyone loves pubs), could be real nice again. Make's for a good cycle too.

Was down that way a couple of months ago and as I slowed right down to go across the level crossing (and upsetting everyone behind me), I looked to my left and I swear there was a train not ten yards from me! I screamed like a little girl! The train was stopped at the station of course but I didn't know that.
