Just back from the local to watch a rerun of Weir's Way. Classic stuff,
a view of the village of Pennan this evening. Always liked Tom Weir's
presentation, perhaps not everyones cup of tea, but still one of
my favourite views of Scotland.

Seen many an Aurora in the sky as kid. Got to go back some time,
when time permits

Popular topic Tom Weir particularly with the late night drinkers fresh home from the pub. We should have a Tom Weir strand on its own and maybe an award.

I was away up a hill in the middle of nowhere aged about 12 with my dad and his mate (21 years ago) when we saw a couple of guys walkingf towards us in the distance. My old man pipes up "here comes Tom Weir"....low and behold as he gets closer it fecking is Tom Weir.

Him and his mate out for a walk, no cameras or anything, just walking.

I have pleasure to report that he was wearing a kilt!!!

About a year ago, my mate, who has a Ceilidh Band played at his 90th birthday (?) in Milton (?)

I saw Tom Weir not too many years ago - 2003 maybe, in Milngavie, anyway i think it was just before his TV programmes were enjoying their renaissance. He was still instantly recognisable and attracting wee crowds of appreciative onlookers.

Last Christmas i was amazed at how popular his dvd's were. Saw quite a few folks standing in queues with them.

I still remember his programmes from the first time round in the early eighties, inspired me to go hill walking the year (1984) i was leaving school. Absolute scorcher of a summer, came back dehydrated due to drout and with skin like peeled plum tomatoes.

I wonder how many other folk Tom Weir inspired to go hill walking.

Me. I'm inspired. Bought the boots, waterproof trousers, guide books, map etc etc. But never seem to manage to get my fat arse up a hill. Was never a problem when I was a wean running about Glennifer Braes in sannies and shorts.

Personally, i think Weir's Way is one of the most watchable programs that has ever existed on the TV, yeah, seriously. Tom Weir has a such a warm personality and none of the stuffiness normally associated with presenters who do any sort of historical programming.

Is there a Weir's Way box set yet ?

Free copy of 'Best of Weirs Way' in today's Scotsman newspaper.
If yer quick there will be few copy's left round at the garage cos its a pish read any how.

I always liked how he reeled off the history of wherever he was, seemingly without effort. Thats takes a very special talent.

The wee man I think no longer lives in Gartocharn but is in a private nursing home. Must be into his 90s. Seems from comments most folk liked his progs, this is more than can be said of Jimmy MacGregor a famous "hillman" in his lunch time. I recall after his West Highland Way he appeared in the Ubiqutous Chip and left very soon after due to many ribald comments as he made much use of a helicopter while making prog.

He was interviewed last year and it said he was still living at home with his wife...
