I'll second that. A tribute by STV is well in order, but as tobesters
says they'll probably punt it around 3am, cause they want to
peddle their shite (no * since I feel rather strongly on this issue).

Even just a small 2 hour documentary, see some of the out takes as
well, a very fitting tribute to the ambassador of the Scottish
travelog.

Many a tourist told me sitting in Edinburgh bars, that the footage
drew them to Scotland, in such a straight forward and unbiased
way.

RIP Tom. Gone but never forgotten.

Why don't we all petition STV and demand they show a tribute to Tom. He was a great ambassador for Scotland.

We could also arrange for our local MSP to sign a motion in celebration of a Great Scot who did more for tourism than the old tourist board.

He was a great man. Even though he claimed to be apolitical there was always a subtle critique in his writings and television work. Some of those old programmes were pretty out there, long slow takes (even in a 15 minute show) and excellent use of music. His writing is concise and avoids the trap of Sunday Post-style couthyness and all round Scottish parochialism. Wish I'd gotten to meet him. Brilliant!

Can I suggest a Hidden Glasgow walk in the Campsies in honour of Tom?

Any takers?

May he ramble in peace in the great glen in the sky :D

I'd be up for a walk in the campsies on a sunny day, sounds good. As does the tribute. Might be nice to have a piece about him and his life on the main site too?

How about two weeks from tomorrow (if this doesn't clash with any other scheduled walks)? Sunday 23rd July.
A Sunday ramble up Campsie Glen in honour of the Bobble-hatted one?

Can't make it on the 23rd but the following Sunday 30th July would suit better :)

not only should there be a HG walk but a statue should be erected in the Glen to commemorate his love of the area. Myself and my fiance would be up for a stroll round the Campsies as we watched Tom avidly after nights at the pub while squinting at the telly and saying " not that bloody Arthur's seat one again" and also the fact the hills are pretty much on our doorstep

This Motion has been lodged with the Scottish Parliament.

S2M-04654 Mr Ted Brocklebank (Mid Scotland and Fife) (Con): Death of Tom Weir - That the Parliament notes the sad death of the broadcaster, climber, naturalist and writer, Tom Weir, whose STV programme, “Weir’s Way”, brought the beauty of Scotland’s outdoor places to generations of Scots and those further afield; recognises his genuine ability to engage with all types of people and his passion for the Scottish landscape and natural history; further notes the rediscovery of Tom’s work through recent repeats of his work on television which has gained a new and younger audience, and sends its condolences to his wife and family.
