Sad to see the former BICC's Scottish Cables office block
brick building on Glasgow Rd in Renfrew is being demolished
today. Reflecting its recent former use:

30 yrs ago the unions triumphed over plain sense, so these
cable manufacturing ( yes that is right manufacturing) works
closed and everyone lost their jobs. The partner company BK
used the building as offices for a while but then shipped out
to some scuzzy modern pavilion office elsewhere.
Renfrewshire Council (SNP led) clearly must have a Planning Dept
that is on top of the situation. As far as I can see, the only good
thing about Renfrew's ahem-"waterfront" is the playria, pond and
sculptures at Clyde View Park.

That said their bold claim to be the 'first new West of Scotland
public park for many years' spoils the whole vibe: surely
beardmore, spire and every aspiring developer trying to
schmooze the corporation for some little boxes.
This mis-understanding of our local area is possibly
Clyde Waterrfront's rather than Renfrewshire Council's,
whatever they should proof read their stuff better.
Would've thought some crowd could've found the need for a charming
1930s style building? But seemingly no, they all want to be in freight
handling buildings at the cargo area of Liege airport instead.
