trip to Glasgow

Postby Christina » Sat Dec 27, 2003 5:14 pm

Hi everyone!
I´m a 18 year old girl from Germany and i´m planning a trip to Glasgow for my class.
Can anyone of you tell me places that we MUST see? Tell me everything, museums, sights, bars, restaurants, everything, please! :D

Your class? Can I assume for your classmates & not a bunch of 6 year olds you teach?

I'd recommend:

St Mungo's Museum of Religious stuff (has lots of interesting & offbeat things plus the necropolis is a short walk away: worth visiting for the views & old tombs)

CCA (Centre for Contemporary Arts) on Sauchiehall St (main street) for food, bar (on 1st floor), galleries & art shop (plus beautiful interior)

Glasgow University & Hunterian Museum: close to Kelvingrove Park (handy spot for a sneaky outdoor alcoholic picnic) & Museum (though may be closed for major renovation works).

Walk up Great Western Road & down Byres Road, visiting the Botanic Gardens where the two streets intersect.

The new snazzy science centre & sticky up aerofoil (which last I heard didn't work as planned) down at the old Govan docks.

Museum of Modern Art (slap bang in the centre of town), near all the shops (Buchanan St, Sauchiehall St & Argyle St)

The Barras, a "market" in the most generous sense of the word (down at the end of Argyle Street) but watch your purse / belongings & don't mistake the blokes in tracksuits for sports enthusiasts.

Glasgow's Peoples Palace: for history as experienced by the "real" glasgewians.

Can't recommend places to eat or bars as you're much younger than me (& I'm veggie) so you probably move to the beat of a different drum.

Enjoy yourself, eat a fish supper, quaf some buckie & you can't go wrong!

Trip to Glasgow

You Could do a lot worse, why not employ Tubozutek (you can find him on here as he is a team member) as your guide to all things Scottish, although he comes from Rabbie Burns Country "Ayrshire".
::):
Not a bad thing when it comes to entertaining the ladies though :-) to be your personal guide when you visit Glasgow. And 18y/o you say...............! give him a bit of time to think about it though.

Don't worry about being bored in Glasgow as there will be plenty to see and do.

Out of interest, what sort of music do you like?

If the answer is "Rock", and you fancy a Wednesday night out while you're here, then drop me a line nearer the time and I'll sort out guest-list places for you ( And probably most of your friends ) at my club night.

Gordontcp: If you check out the 'Whats On' section you'll find the Rev posts his playlist and review of the gigs there every week.
