Re: Glasgow Central Station & Railways

Some pictures of Central Station from 1965. http://www.scotcities.com/cathcart/destination_board.jpg The destination board had a colour scheme for suburban routes, green for diesels (platforms 4 & 5) and blue for electric trains (platforms 7 & 8). Don't remember the colour coding. It's actu...

Going back to the Renfield Street picture, it appears my theory about this being some kind of "Troops Out" demo may have been right, a Google for "George Johnston" and razor producing this:

The Invergowrie crash was due to a communication error - 'Lunan Bay' was confused with 'Letham Grange', or vice versa. Different incident. Invergowrie was a signal passed at Danger, then the train ran into the back of a failed one. Lunan Bay was several years earlier. Reports for both on "Rail...

I recommend the excellent "Railways Archive" site for accident reports on those mentioned and many other incidents:

I remeber seeing this picture in the Daily Ranger many years ago, and the caption indicated that it was an Orange Walk. Given the mixture of banners/flags in the background, it might have been something else (Troops Out with some kind of counter-demo?).

Remember quite a bit about this... 1) My uncle had a lucky escape when the chimney fell through the roof of their house in Drumchapel, "escaped" with a broken leg. 2) My Dad was a postman, and used to go to work about 5 AM - by that time, the storm had passed, and he was walking to work at...

Elke,

Sorry it tok so long - I spoke to my mother about this yesterday, she has no recollection of any incident like that. It may well have been "covered up" by the authorities of the time.

Interested to see mention of The Brandon in Motherwell, never used to be a place associated with "problems". Now The Eagle.....there's a different story! Many years ago, the Sunday Mail had a feature called "Pub Spy" where their man would visit pubs and rate them. Worst place he ...

Definitely the old Partickhill S&T depot on the left, the current Partick station is just east of this across Dumbarton Road.,

Couple of things on this:

1) There is still an Addie Street in Motherwell.

2) Anyone know anything about a Pretoria Street in Cambuslang? My father was born there in 1915, but I believe the street hasn't existed for many years.
