Re: Subway today

Glad to hear that an integrated ticketing system is will be rolled out soon. I knew that was in the pipeine as Transport Scotland were advertising jobs in this area last year, but I didn't think the roll out would be as soon as this. I'll be interesting to see how this works. I'd be in favour of a z...

Re: Cathcart Circle Disruption

There are posters up at the stations that advise that if you have a train season ticket, you can use it on the First Glasgow buses (as well as Arriva and City Sprinter). I tried this morning to get on the 44 and was told to get lost! I even checked with the First guy at the station and he said I co...

Re: Cathcart Circle Disruption

I appreciate that there's nothing that could be done to prevent this closure, but I'm disappointed that Scotrail aren't running a bus service from the affected stations to Central. The service buses I can catch, the 44 and 66, can take as long as 35 minutes to reach the city centre from Battlefield ...

Re: Chinooks over Glasgow (23/06/08)

Saw these flying (very slowly!) north east over Mount Florida at around 8pm tonight. Pretty impressive sight.

If these flights are regular, then I clearly walk around with my head wedged up my arse. That's the first time I've seen Chinooks over Glasgow since I moved here a couple of years back.

Re: Stirlingfauld Place Demolition Photos

Pass the flats on the train into Central this morning, it looks as though hight winds have ripped some of the black sheeting round one of the blocks. I've no idea what purpose this sheeting serves, but I imagine this might casue a delay if the sheeting can't be repaired in time. As for a viewpoint, ...

Re: Sounded like a military jet

They flew almost directly over my flat, only a couple of hundred metres above the roofs. :D

The old blokes and biddies in the Bon Secours hospital would have got a hell of a fright, as they were heading directly over it. ::):

Re: Mystery football ground, Polmadie

Off on a tangent here, but I was always intrigued as to why Pollok took their name from the area despite playing in Shawlands/Pollokshaws. I suppose that's answered now.

Re: Good Restaurants

Went to Tinto on Battlefield Road last night. Shamefully, that's the first time I've eaten Tapas. I had dishes consisting of squid, andchovies and spicy meatballs. The gf had a chorizo stew and some baked veggie stuff. We both enjoyed our grub, which seem to be much less bland than the other tapas p...

Re: Mystery football ground, Polmadie

Is that maybe Rutherglen Glencairn's old ground?

I know their ground was compulsorily purchased as part of the M74 build. Their new gound is being built on the other side of the railway from Polmadie at present.

Re: Twisted Wheel

I've not been in this since Xmas Eve. I assume all the piss artists who used to take advantage of the cheap midweek bevvy prices have moved on?

Re: Old Queen's Park Booklet Past Present

Cracking stuff. Havving lived around this area (Queen's Park, now Mount Florida) over the last year and a half, it's the area of Glasgow I know best. I walk around Queen's Park and the surrounding streets pretty regularly, so I'm more fimiliar with those scenes than anywhere else outside the city ce...

Re: Quick Hide The Telly!

The buggers came to my door the other night. The doorbell went, but as I'd not heard the buzzer for the close door I assmumed that it was one of the neighbours. As the telly was blaring when I opened the door, I had no sodding choice but to set up a direct debit on the spot. Edit: If I find o...

Re: Carbuncle Awards 2008

The Etap Hotel is at Springfield Quay, it is horrendous i was down there last week. Glasgow City Council Planning ought to be shot. The whole Quay area down there is becoming a real mish mash of bad corporate architecture with seemingly little Planning controls. The new Casino is a real Car crash o...

Re: Carbuncle Awards 2008

As someone who grew up in Coatbridge, I reckon the town's well overdue this award. As a whole, Coatbridge has improved beyond recongition over the last 15-20 years, but the town centre remains an eyesore. It's a thorougly depressing place. The council will point to the new paving and lighting that t...
