Re: Project Updates: St Peter's Seminary

I'm going at the end of the week (twice, oddly enough!). Be a shame not to have such free access and loads of people when you usually got the place to yourself (or with a few other kindred spirits/graffiti artists/porn film makes!) but I guess it would have been an H&S/insurance nightmare withou...

Re: Exploring old Butlins sites...

Cracker, Toby - I only wish I wasn't so young that I didn't take in more on my Butlins trips in the late 70s and early 80s. Then again, I saw these things through a kid's eyes, so there was probably more magic in my perceptions than in reality!

Re: One for the railway heads

This colour pic purports to be 1962 as well, seems to show mostly blue with a thin yellow stripe:

Re: Help save the Govanhill Picture House!

This has been the slowest redevelopment I've seen in years....

I suppose it does at least have a new roof now - compared to how it looked after the winter storms a few years ago, it is at least an improvement!

Re: One for the railway heads

Yeah, I think they were diverting via Mount Florida. Doesn't happen very often at all, odd to see the big trains winding round the Cathcart Circle.

Re: One for the railway heads

I see the there are various engineering works going on this weekend in the Rutherglen/Cambuslang area. Virgin are saying their trains are running but with a slight diversion - anyone know what these will be? Are they going through the Cathcart Circle?

Re: One for the railway heads

It wasn't bad, but I stumbled on this 1972 episode of BBC's Horizon series which had actual eyewitnesses and a look inside Quintinshill Signal Box, which still existed at the time - from around 2 mins in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcgX3cyE5vc (Bugger it, tried 8 times to remember how the YT em...

I'm just heading in there to book some tickets myself. Did a Google Image search to see if it was as rubbish as I remember...

Re: One for the railway heads

It's absolutely tiny - literally a small corner of the ticket and travel centre next to the Gordon St entrance. I used the Euston one a couple of years ago (since refurbished) and it was OK, but I had just come off the Sleeper and only had a couple of cans of juice. It, at least, has showers and oth...

Re: One for the railway heads

Doesn't seem entirely finalised in terms of what will happen to the 15-min frequency, but the Dalmeny reverse thing seems to be a definite according to all reports.

Shame the Dalmeny chord hasn't been built, could have done away with the reversing nonsense and made it a bit less painful.

Diverted to Dalmeny, where they'll reverse direction before heading into Edinburgh.

Re: One for the railway heads

I thought the plan was to use rebuilt and re-engined Class 73s to haul the Deerstalker?
